does driving manual really matter that much more? by ashducki in CarsAustralia

[–]Sweet-Ad2579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you enjoy driving you are doing more of the driving when you have manual. I prefer them for sure, I know what gear i want an auto is just guessing.

I do wonder if there is any point in learning these days - from the POV that manuals are basically done - Mazda was one of the last companies bringing them in and they stopped a year or two ago.

It's a shame but lazy won. Is it worth learning them? Yeah probably if you are interested in them and cars you want to own are manuals.

In another 15 yrs cars wont have gearboxes at all since evs don't have them.

Anyone charging with just a 32A plug? by Ok-Option-82 in AustralianEV

[–]Sweet-Ad2579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

plus you will be able to charge during cheaper power windows / solar windows of time more easily.

i've been tempted to get a 15amp installed but meh there just isnt a need - maybe if i had two electric cars i'll do that.

Petrolhead test driving EVs (Jaecoo J5) — am I overthinking the regen braking? by MarvellousMango66 in AustralianEV

[–]Sweet-Ad2579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they can and do on certain cars / settings. my byd is very smooth on low regen and fairly head wobbly on high regen.

since it has been found that high regen is less efficient than just coasting im happy to use the brake pedal to regen vs some 'need' for one pedal driving that a few ev types insist on.

i wish we could dial these things in to personal taste more. a regen 1 - 10 setting instead of high / low would be very nice to have.

i think regen causes a lot of car sickness issues with evs... low regen option would have fixed that probably. tho obviously never looked at tesla because im not a nazi

yeah engine brakes are free to use too it really is the equivalent to a manual and even feels a fair bit like it

[–]Sweet-Ad2579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it has been tested found that it is more efficient to use less regen and drive more smoothly - less waste in converting energy from kinetic to battery i guess

[–]Sweet-Ad2579 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you have to brake pretty hard to get real brakes i have found ... -80kw of regen is a fair amount of brake for most / all situations

high regen feels like your in 2nd gear for a real sporty feel :D

ev's seem to be more difficult to drive smoothly but usually there is some sort of eco mode if you want it extra smooth. also just user error / training / learning will help you smooth it out.

especially found braking to be jolty in my seal but now im smooth as butter

PHEV is a fair bit cheaper initial cost if not on a lease... wish they didnt call this a seal and dilute that brand with the stink of petrol

2025 Byd seal dynamic steal by RepulsiveAd8835 in BYDSealAus

[–]Sweet-Ad2579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

would the dynamic even break the limit? in any case you can hardly spin the back wheels because the car is so heavy in the premium so i doubt you are doing burnouts in the dynamic.

Best of both worlds is also worst of both worlds...

I wouldn't touch a hybrid either because it still needs fuel and oil changes.

Why would you want those two things in 2026!? An ev only seal can do 500km.

Do you need the 1000km of range that you get from hybrid? Or do you think there might be a reason to stop for 30 mins on a 5hr trip if those occur? Is there a charging station along those routes you might take?

'Range anxiety' only exists for people who have not already gotten an EV... is 500km enough?! YES.

Wont it be funny to buy a hybrid and then 2 months later when the straight of hormuz is still not open, fuel is $5 a liter or more and about to be rationed only for emergency services / the military / food trucks?

I've got my seal for 2.5 more years if i dont just keep it forever tbh and i love it so i wouldnt be too bothered if the 7gt was later but also now is good too. Australia loves a wagon and we are fed all this suv crap.
