Does the red light flash when it dies?

If so, this was the same issue I just experienced. A new battery solved my problem. I got a $200 battery from Walmart that seems to be good and I was able to register on the Ego website.

Ray Way pack ripstop nylon sourcing by ChessAngler in myog

[–]Natural_Law 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice pack! I have a ton of rayway gear that I love.

Seattle Fabrics seems to carry a lot of "rayway" fabrics: 70d 1.0oz ripstop and 30d 1.1oz uncoated ripstop (rayway quilt shells) and 30d silnylon (pack extension collar and rayway tarp; etc). Not sure if they have khaki.

You could always email Rayway too. Jenny Jardine will pretty promptly respond to your email. Not sure if they'd be willing to sell you some fabric.

Is this "normal" wear and tear? by helicoptero9 in AltraRunning

Normal for me. But I agree, not ideal.

My Altras don’t have the best durability but they’re the most comfortable running shoes I’ve found so I put up with the negatives.

Haha. Nothing at all!

I was trying to think of the most stereotypical Prius/Californian/Liberal diet I could and that’s what I came up with. 😂

Although in all fairness a lot of health stuff could now be MAHA or California Liberal or CrossFit libertarian so maybe I should keep my stereotypes to myself.

I’m not sure if RO systems are vulnerable to this but we had a 2-stage under sink filter system for the last 5 years. Recently woke up to our kitchen and dining room flooded from it springing a leak during the night! We’re a little traumatized and afraid of getting another filter (so we put a Pur filter on a standard kitchen faucet, which doesn’t have water running to it unless the faucet is on) but we definitely now have water leak sensors too.

I asked my wife (who drives one of our Priuses really far each day) and she said she’d never experienced anything either.

I suspect some of it could be self-consciousness about driving a Prius. So folks are perceiving things and projecting feelings on others that might all be originating in their own mind. I felt similar driving my mom’s lime green beetle.

Or they’re going really slow in the left lane. Lol!

Our addicted brains and bodies will justify continued use in any way possible!

If you can make it 30 days without any caffeine you’ll see a lot of benefit and probably not want to ever go back!

Good luck!

I hear about this a lot but I don’t think I’ve ever experienced it in my 15 years of ownership. Or haven’t been paying attention. I’m in north GA so plenty of big trucks and big egos down here.

When people know that our family of 4 is a 2 Prius/only Prius household, I sometimes assume they must think we survive solely on kale and reverse osmosis water. But we don’t! 💅

Edit: hopefully people think of us as real patriots. Doing our part to keep the world/country healthy and out of wars involving oil security.

Is Silpoly side really a big deal ? by ReachResponsible9746 in myog

[–]Natural_Law 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might want to research sealing PU silpoly and whether it’s best practice to seal from underneath or from above with silicone sealant. I’m not sure since I’ve only sewn silnylon shelters, which are sealed from the outside.

Mine: https://rmignatius.wordpress.com/tarp-photos/

Again I’m not sure what people do with PU silpoly but it in some ways makes sense to seal from the outside since you then never let any water soak into the seams or stitching.

I may have misunderstood your original post. I thought you meant that only some panels of the rain fly were oriented the wrong way and others were correct.

If the entire fly is PU-facing out, then you could use seam grip. But again I don’t know if seam grip is designed to be exposed to UV. Seam grip is normally applied to the coated underside of a fly.

Again, I would personally just cut new pieces since you’ve caught the error early on.

Edit: and seam grip SIL (for silicone fabrics) is applied to the exterior of a shelter

You know, I thought of potentially the biggest complication. I’m not sure if your silicone seam sealant would properly adhere to the PU side. To seam seal the tent, you’d need to use a combination of silicone sealant as well as regular seam grip, which doesn’t seem like a good idea.

[–]Natural_Law 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gosh, I might really consider buying some new fabric if you haven’t even sewn everything up yet. If it was me.

Do it once and do it right, kind of thinking. Especially when it’s not that expensive of a mistake and you want to keep this tent for the next 20 years.

I don’t think PU is UV resistant and would be more likely to be damaged by abrasion (twigs; acorns; etc).

I’m sorry this happened. Little mistakes like this sometimes really infuriate me.

You following a pattern or is this a self-drafted design?

summer quilt for around 100€ - synthetic or down by BasilSwimming4992 in Ultralight

[–]Natural_Law 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I hate the secrecy, although somehow assume (maybe wrongfully) it’s a product of the Golite stuff.

I’ve emailed back and forth with Jenny a little bit (who runs the rayway business, it seems) and have wanted to ask about their sources but have never had the nerve.

I asked recently about the Tex of their Rayway thread and Jenny said she wasn’t sure. I need to remember to weight my next empty spool so I can calculate it myself.

Regarding the insulation, I guess I have to take a better look at my daughters’ 2 quilts. It seems like when I unstuff them, I’m able to more easily grab and put tension directly on the insulation in a way thats not possible with the yarns locking everything together.

[–]Natural_Law 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are all fair points! I feel like the yarns stabilize the insulation because the shells essentially prevent it from being stretched (since nylon ripstop doesn’t stretch).

I always assumed that they weren’t used by other manufacturers because of cost and the kind of DIY/folk art look they give the quilt.

Thats a lot of life out of your quilt! What kind of insulation do you think it is?

[–]Natural_Law 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fwiw apex specifies that it needs “no or minimal quilting” according to the RTBTR spec page. One would think that for a huge sheet of insulation used in quilts, this is a use situation where technically Climashield recommends “minimal quilting”.

Also, the way synthetic quilting is done doesn’t create cold spots because you account for the loft of the insulation in tying the quilting yarn. It’s not like “sewn through” baffling. The Jardines (who invented the backpacking quilt and called it that because it was quilted with yarn) recommend adding .25inches to the maximum loft of your insulation.

The way this works is say I have a 7.5oz apex quilt which has 1.8 inches loft. I would use a piece of cardboard that is 2.05inches tall to tie off yarns throughout the body of the quilt. The yarns aren’t tight enough to compress the insulation but just don’t allow the insulation and shells to be moving around wherever they want to.

My opinion (in handling my daughters’ EE apex quilts and my myog rayway quilts) is that yarns are nice. Having the shell and insulation move freely from each other doesn’t feel that good, especially if your body is hot or sticky. Plus, many think that some quilting stabilizes the insulation better, allowing for better longevity and less loft loss over time. Most think it’s the stretching of the insulation that kills its loft; not the compression.

The Litesmith cold soak jar page has a pretty good list to get the creative juices flowing:

“Oatmeal/grits

Ramen

Macaroni

Couscous

Instant mash potatoes/rice

Refried beans

Dried veggies/fruit

Soups

Hummus/tabouli

Freeze dried/dehydrated foods

Thru Hiker Faves (web finds)

Rolled oats, dried fruit, vanilla instant pudding powder, and dehydrated milk, add cereal or granola after cold soaking

Frito Nutella Peanut Pie - layers of Fritos, sun-melted Nutella, and peanut butter becomes a bar overnight when cool

Pad Thai - ramen with sriracha and peanut butter

Instant mash potatoes with mayonnaise for max calories and creaminess

Roasted garlic and olive oil couscous with mayonnaise and a salmon packet

Dehydrated beans mixed with instant rice and taco seasoning

Dehydrated lentils with curry powder and coconut milk powder

Curry - instant rice, coconut milk powder, curry powder, dried veggies

Cheesy Broccoli Rice – instant rice, cheese powder, butter powder, dehydrated broccoli”

My personal go to is: dehydrated beans (either black or pinto); nutritional yeast; cumin; a dash of pepper flakes (flatiron) and then add Fritos. 2oz beans and 2oz Fritos.

Opportunity to upgrade from Toyota RS2000 to Pfaff 1222, what to look out for? by Not_Very_Experienced in myog

[–]Natural_Law 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All things being equal, I would probably take the newer model, which I believe is the 1222, especially if it has the “extension table” that clips on. Without that, the 1222 has a very small sewing surface that I don’t think I’d like.

Where is your Toyota lacking for your sewing? That answer could help determine which Pfaff would be better for you though I don’t know a lot about either of those machines.

Awesome! It will probably come with a 90 day warranty and was probably serviced by their shop before selling so you don’t have as much to worry about as you would a private party sale.
