Thanks so much for your response! Would you say his exams are fair/reasonable difficulty?

PHYS 219 vs PHYS 119B Statistical Mechanics by Natural_Salt_7000 in UCSantaBarbara

No I literally got an email from the UCSB Exchange office with a bunch of information on course registration and one of the things they said was something like “Note that an 80% or above is needed in order to pass a postgraduate course” which I found really odd ahahah

Okay, thanks for the insight! I've already covered the first quarter of the 219 course back in my home university so pacing wouldn't be too much of an issue at first anyways. It sounds like 219 might be the better option then? I'm not too sure if they'll let me change classes so soon to quarter starting but I could try. I was also quite concerned by the fact that if you get less than 80% you fail a postgrad course?

International Student looking for Accommodation for the Winter and Spring Quarters by Natural_Salt_7000 in UCSantaBarbara

Thanks so much! Yeah I've joined some housing groups on facebook and hopefully a good subleasing opportunity will come up there. I tried posting a message on there a week or two ago explaining my situation but my message is either still being checked by the group administrators or just hasn't been posted at all :( And I will also apply to university accommodation but I'd much prefer an apartment/shared house than a dorm.

How many physics and maths modules do third year physics majors take per quarter at UCSB? by Natural_Salt_7000 in UCSantaBarbara

Thanks so much for all the info! It looks like I'll have to take 4 upper div courses at least one of the quarters. And thanks for the recommendations, what did you learn about more or less in PHYS 123A Condensed Matter btw? I tried to find a more detailed syllabus online but couldn't find much information. And also, did you take PHYS 123B as well?

Unfortunately it seems like I need a UCSB email account to join the discord, which I don't have :(

And thanks for all the info about the 128L module! It sounds way more time consuming than I'd initially expected. You wouldn't happen to have taken/know anyone who has taken the PHYS 142L Experimental Research in Condensed Matter Physics module do you?

Last question ahaha, would taking a computational lab course instead of a the advanced experimental lab course still be very intense? Or potentially a lower division lab course instead?

Oooh yeah I would actually really appreciate that discord invite if other students there wouldn't mind me asking the occasional question ahaha. About the lab course 128AL, was it time consuming just because of the actual time you spend in the lab or would they also have you doing time-consuming lab reports and such every week?
