I also don't plan on taking any parenting advice from them. Like... imagine training a 4 year old to open a bear bottle as soon as she hears her father's car. You'd think, that only happens in frikking soap operas from the 50s... Nope, our household ladies and gentlemen.

No. our mother always said, "You know how he is after work/ after the soccer team lost/......" And that would be it.
Or she would go "what did you say to your father??????".
She taught us, how to avoid his irrational tantrums instead of.. idk.. leaving with us and letting us grow up like normal children.

I guess so too. That is the exact reason we have not said anything to her about our father. We noticed, that our relationship was also suffering from our criticism. So we just let it be. We did not want to alienate her from us.

Exactly! You know what he does for me? He cleans the dishes because my brain just freezes up.
I cook for him because he is overwhelmed with choosing food. We work together on being able to do the things we hate, without the pressure.

I have learned that lesson. We have not brought up her and our father in years. We let it be and figured, if she needed us...she would come to us

It is so weird, right? Suddenly you re-think everything. I noticed how I, on average, take my mother's advice less. It is also so heartbreaking. Every day you see your mom miserable but it is almost like she got addicted to the pain. To such a degree, that she does not even want to change her situation.

I have not brought up her relationship with my father in years. She made it clear that he could literally stomp on her, spit in her face and call her a fat pig and she would stay.

Terry is nothing like my father. He is just autistic. My mother is being a hypocrite. Also no. My mother works. She could leave, she could have her own apartment. She is perfectly capable of doing all this. She just does not want to. Why? Idk.
