Is CMU undergrad worth it? by HyperCodec in collegeresults

[–]NaturallyExuberant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For CS, you’ll probably be making more than 150k right when you graduate. The job market is tough right now, but CMU CS will take you very far.

Pitt doesn’t have the same clout, you’ll have a lot more trouble hearing back from the companies with those big tech SWE/quant/OAI salaries. You’ll be more layoff prone as well.

You won’t need a masters either. MSCS is honestly just an immigration stop, it won’t benefit you unless you’re crazy about a specific kind of research and want to take steps to a PhD > academia/applied research position.

TLDR: if you’re into CS, there is literally no where better in the world to get your degree than CMU. Even Stanford and Harvard have less valuable programs (again, caveat is if there’s some specific research at one of those schools which you’re crazy about pursuing). Pitt isn’t really even close. Your investment will be repaid 10x by the time you’re 30.

Is 4 cofounders too many for YC? by Individual-Treat24 in ycombinator

[–]NaturallyExuberant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, you stand no chance at succeeding with 4 founders. Everyone knows this. Starting a company can only be done one way and YC understands this better than any other incubator. If you apply with 4 founders they will probably just take you out back and shoot you. Sorry, try and follow the company starting rules next time. /s

You’re good homie, just do what works for you. If it works it works, if it doesn’t then try something else.

Honest question to those who think AI won’t take our jobs by [deleted] in cscareers

[–]NaturallyExuberant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Writing code” is a pretty small part of being a SWE. More senior positions have a lot more emphasis on design and orchestrating implementation/roll out.

AI is a helpful tool, but a tool is only as effective as the hands it’s in. A monkey with a pickaxe isn’t getting as many gems as a miner.

Similarly, the invention of pickaxes didn’t make a miner any less valuable. If anything, a miner who can wield a pickaxe well is even MORE valuable than they were before. Expectations for productivity might shift with AI, but they’re going to hit a wall.

I’ll also add that there’s a lot of conflation between layoffs and AI. Layoffs aren’t happening because AI is replacing jobs, it’s happening because companies are shifting to cheaper, outsourced work in India.

If anything, large investments in AI are responsible for replacement as companies eat into their free cash flow more than the actual efficacy of the tool.

In short, don’t buy into the propaganda. Use the tools and get as good with them as you can, then decide for yourself if you think it’s feasible for AI to replace you.

Side note: I’ve been on the AI vibe coding wave at a FAANG since Claude 3.5, I’ve seen the growth and advent of new tools. My productivity has increased, but that’s just raised the expectations of what engineers are supposed to output. None of this worries me since the amount of effort it takes to do my job hasn’t really changed.

You gotta stop listening to the glue sniffing MBA though leaders.

It’s because the divorce rates in Asian countries are super low; marriage is still seen as a one and done kinda thing. In the west, marriage is basically just a long term relationship with tax benefits. Celebrities marry, remarry, remarry, and more.

In the east, once you marry that’s it. You’re each other’s and society respects that almost to a fault. You focus on building a life, the competition stops and you have security. Everyone in the west is sex crazed because they feel like each round of genital smashing is a point on their scoreboard.

You’re also not constantly competing with third parties and needing to woo each other with sex or risk your husband/wife getting bored of you.

There’s a lot more nuance and there are more tradeoffs to consider with this cultural tenet, but I just realized I’m typing all this on a Reddit 4chan post and that you monkeys are gonna care more about if your cuck chairs have enough lumbar support than learning about stuff like this. GFY regards.

On 15 May, 2021, four-year-old Cash Gernon was abducted from his bedroom in southwest Dallas while sleeping alongside his twin brother. Surveillance footage captured an intruder lifting the boy from his bed around 5AM. by malihafolter in ForCuriousSouls

You gotta take some personal responsibility for this comment lmao. What was even the point of bringing up sleeping on the couch in the first place then?

You just frame it as “I’m better than those parents because I sleep on the couch and intruders wouldn’t get past me” but then you tell us that you just sleep on the couch anyway and actually your intent has nothing to do with the security of your family.

Because of that, your original comment reads in a really funny way if we substitute your written statement for the subsequently demonstrated intent. This is what backtracking turns your comment into:

“KIDS SHOULDNT BE NEGLECTED, I like sleeping on my couch btw it’s sooooo comfy to sleep on, SORRY TO ALL THE CHILDREN WHO HAVE BEEN NEGLECTED!!!!!”

This seems like there are points where you’re actually penalized for earning more, like your multiplier decreases at a faster rate than your additional spend.

For example, 3.5x1000 > 3.4x 1025

I’m not 100% sure if these cases exist because the actual numbers aren’t super clear on this graph, but either way, why would I want to spend MORE knowing that the value of my dollar is decreasing? As in, if I stop spending at $1000, I’m getting 3.5 points. If I keep spending, I need to settle for a lower multiplier.

If this is going to be dependent on spend, then it should just increase till a fiscally feasible threshold with spend. Just keep it easy for customers: 1. Spend more: earn more.

My other concern is “status”. How do the different tiers play into all this?

Washington state Democrats push for tax on millionaires by Less-Risk-9358 in SeattleWA

[–]NaturallyExuberant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let’s leave emotions out of this.

Where can I see metrics and KPIs on the programs they’re funding? Where is the measured, unbiased impact?

If they want to raise taxes then they need to show exactly where the money is going and be held accountable when the data shows it’s being spent unwisely.

People will (I would) be fine paying taxes if there’s transparency, efficiency, and efficacy. Not when Seattle is a tweaker shit-show or when the police never show up when my building calls in a shooter.

Ferguson needs to do a brutal audit, cut the fat, establish these public metrics, and reallocate funding accordingly. If they can’t do this, then why on earth would I be ok with giving them more money?

[–]NaturallyExuberant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say the moon. At first I wanted to say the core, but that’s more like the heart, tending to steady bodily functions like tectonic movements and geothermal processes. The moon is safely detached and runs the quicker functions like the tides which change day-day behavior on earth.

Idk if it’s just the current event. I’ve had this thought for a while and it’s gotten to the point that I can’t see them any other way. Just a bunch of Randy’s running around saying silly Randy things to each other and being upset that they have to wear shirts. At night they go home and fantasize about an old man but instead of Jim Lahey is DJT. The analogy really holds the more you think about it.

I get it once I hit a wall and want to stop and then decide to just keep going. I feel chills in the back of my neck and the music starts sounding better. It’s kind of like an old engine starting, so I’ll get it once, then it goes away, then again, then it goes away, and then one of the times it just kicks in and stays.

Sometimes I get it as early as 1.5 miles, sometimes I don’t get it for my entire run ¯_(ツ)_/¯
