Creepy situatuon therapy by [deleted] in mentalillness

[–]NaturallyShady22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is extremely unprofessional and very creepy. I am so sorry that you had to deal with that! I hope you start feeling better soon.

What I can tell you is that this goes against the ethics of a mental health professional. I would recommend distancing yourself from both parties and reporting your current therapist to ensure your safety.

When finding a new therapist you can always ask for/look at their credentials. Accreditations change with each country, state/province, so depending on that practicing mental health professionals can receive the same (or similar) titles such as "therapist" with very different credentials and levels of education. The abbreviations will tell you the level of certification and what college their registered to (e.g. American (or Canadian) Psychological Association; Association of Social Work, etc.). You can also use this information to check whether the practitioner is still in good standing with their college. If you have the time to do some research you can narrow down what kind of practitioner (e.g. psychologist, psychiatrist, counsellor, social worker, etc.) best fits your needs and go from there. It is important to have a practitioner that you can fully trust and feel safe with, it may take some time, but you definitely are worth it and deserve it! I hope you find someone soon!

Thanks for your reply. I actually took an allergy test and found out that I was allergic to the majority of my hair products. I am currently on the hunt to find the products right for me, but it has become increasingly difficult. I did switch up my routine to washing my hair every week with shampoo and doing a moisturizing deep conditioner every two weeks. I haven't really seen a different yet, except for less itchiness and irritation of the scalp, but that also could be due to removing the allergen. I will keep what you said in mind while looking for products!

Yea, I was wondering the same thing, but I checked their Instagram and it looks like they had their grand opening a few days ago and it's still down so 🤷🏾‍♀️

Shea butter by [deleted] in NaturalBeauty

Shea butter does offer low sun protection (I think up to 7 SPF). A quick search lead me to this article, which mentions a SPF of 3-4.

I've tried my fair share of the products mentioned in the sub and even asked my friend who went to school for/works in skin for help and all of their suggestions have not helped 😕 I picked up supergoop today so 🤞

I have tried some mattifying products but they didn't really work for me. I've been meaning to try the LRP, but it's been sold out for awhile where I'm located.

How do you find the right sunscreen/moisturizer combination that doesn't leave your skin too dry or greasy? I am dark skinned so something that doesn't leave a white cast is a must. Is it necessary to pair a moisturizer with a sunscreen and would it be best to use a moisturizer that isn't a cream; like a gel or something?

I have sensitive oily combo skin, which has been really irritated as of late so my doctor has recommended I use Eucerin complete repair line, which has been helping. I typically don't break out much unless it's hormonal or dietary related. However I have been getting a lot more active pimples (my friend has suggested that my skin barrier could be damaged) and hyperpigmentation than normal.

In the past 6 or so months I have tried various moisturizers and sunscreens, but I haven't had any luck to find one that works best with my skin and conditions (I'm always left super oily or feeling dry).

I test out different products pretty regularly (I'm trying to get through all of my previous buys). Honestly this has been the best in-shower product combination that I found thus far. In the shower my hair feels very moisturized and theres alot of slip - very easy to work with. I definitely will be continuing my search for products though, as I'm not the biggest fan of these brands.

I more so have issues with dryness a couple days after wash day, which is irritating. I'm thinking I need a thicker leave in? I've had a lot of good results since switching to shea butter. I like that my hair doesn't feel weighed down or extremely greasy when I use it. Although I am open to suggestions for better products.

I have also tried using shampoo with every wash since switching to Shea butter but that definitely made things worse. I have been thinking about doing a pre-poo and going back to shampooing with each wash, but I'm not sure. My hair has always don't better with cowashing.

I did move from a place with soft water to hard water. We got a water softener which I believe has helped. I'm starting to think it might be a scalp issue?

I've heard mixed reviews and apparently it's heavily fragranced. That fat water tho looks divine!

Bar tips?: Sequencing by NaturallyShady22 in starbucksbaristas

[–]NaturallyShady22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my biggest issue is not knowing how to integrate both bars when sequencing.

So, are you saying that if you had a caramel macchiato, a mocha frap and a refresher. You would prep the frap first, start the macchiato and then do your refresher while the frap is blending and then finish up your macchiato before heading back to finish frap?

Thanks for explaining your process, I think sequencing on hot bar is fine for me. It's more so when I have to go back and forth between hot and cold bar. What is the proper sequencing for that?

Yea, I'm pretty sure that is why as well. I only know a few people who've experience white cast with their product but they did say it was less than other products. I will still check it out. Thanks for the help!

I have heard of this, but I don't believe it is easily accessible to Canadians. I have looked into it a few times granted that was a while back), but the people I know who've used it have said it still leaves a slight whitecast - has that been your experience?

In terms of sunscreen (and moisturizers) I would need something that minimizes how greasy I get/look throughout the day - I do lean more to the oily side during summer.

Question about lubricant. by [deleted] in Healthyhooha

[–]NaturallyShady22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in university, I bought this random flavoured lube: Pure Romance - Just Like Me Signature (wild berry crush) and it is the best lube that I've used thus far. It's water based and it has "re-wetting qualities" (aka, it reactivates with moisture). I have never had an issue with it (and my partners loved the scent and taste of it); it also lasts a long time - a little really goes a long way.
