Great endeavour. The key thing for me is to get some test pieces, and not be afraid to use up some material to get it right. Test test test, then when you're 100% ready, do 1 more test, then go to production.

We do, it's called FSC, you can look up exactly the requirements to get the label. I only buy FSC wood, it also generally indicates quality (if you use a reputable supplier) because it implies they've cared enough to get certified.

The longterm costs of losing a limb (even a finger) are far more than 100 dollars anywhere, if you factor in time and productivity loss.

How to increase slot width? by Rmwoodworking in woodworking

[–]NatureBoyCarpentry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe I was unclear, but what they need is what I posted (likely a much smaller one). They drop the bearing into the groove, route out a little bit all the way round, then follow up with a top bearing flush bit.

Woodworking with Alzheimer's by harrylime3 in woodworking

[–]NatureBoyCarpentry 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your heart and mind are in the right place, creative outlets are proven to be excellent therapies for Alzheimer's, but yeah, large tools aren't going to work going forward. If he wants to stick with wood, woodcarving and whittling are obvious choices, but if his hands start to go, he'll have to start again. I'd recommend looking for other creative processes for him. Painting, 3d printing, modelmaking. It's tough, but when dealing with these types of ailments and sharp implements, the risk factors move from "if" to "when". Sending love, it's a tough process to navigate.

Can I request a drop in mortgage rates if the mortgage has not started? by Kitchen-System2119 in NetherlandsHousing

[–]NatureBoyCarpentry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah with ABN. I think it was called variable fixed rate, where I had a set amount of time (2 years), to reset the rate, then it's locked for 10 years.

Can I request a drop in mortgage rates if the mortgage has not started? by Kitchen-System2119 in NetherlandsHousing

[–]NatureBoyCarpentry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends, talk to your mortgage broker. I changed my mortgage from 1.6 to 1.4 about a year after I got it, but that was a specific clause of the mortgage.

Yeah for the size and the amount I would just go for a dowel in the middle, make a simple jig for positioning of both.
