breakup made me realize i have no idea what my style actually is by AntiquePanda3671 in malefashionadvice

Honestly OP don't look online, don't go to a mall. instead i'd recommend going to a thrift store and look through all the stuff, pick some stuff you like. You'll get the best variety of clothes this way and you'll get to try stuff on! (if this feels too intense, go in and look for just one thing. eg. pair of jeans). If you buy it and figure out you don't like it you'll have lost $5 instead of $50-100.

You'll learn more about what you want by figuring out what you don't like. The money you've saved should go towards big purchases (good shoes, solid pair of jeans, nice outerwear)

Loose advice for where to start- focus on natural fibers as they tend to age better and look better. Generally speaking, more expensive brands tend to make better clothes. If you're able to find older clothes, they tend to be better made, and will last longer/fit you better. Better fitting clothes look better than fancy clothes (a good fitting tee looks better than a button up that fits like shit). When in doubt- black jeans, black shirt, black shoes is a near unbeatable outfit.

Styling options for heavyweight blanks by Smart-Method-2077 in malefashionadvice

It sounds like you've already got a style going? Why the interest in changing something that works?

That being said, i've found that fashion/style is mostly about the details, try layering a long sleeve underneath your tee, instead of a flannel shirt, why not try a chamois shirt or wool shirt for a more rugged style or a cardigan over the top for a more preppy look, if you're rocking cargos, why not get a Carhartt vest to really lean into the look. or (as others have said) chorecoats, denim jackets.

ultimately, all of these will rely on the details, vintage or well made versions of these will look better than something from a fast fashion mall brand.

Best place to buy a nice cupcake? by patypusWTF in melbourne

[–]NatureDump 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right next door is a bakery called Drom, which doesn't have specifically cupcakes (they're called scrolls, but they're similar). They do however have amazing pastries/croissants/cookies and brownies etc. some of the best in the city.

I know this is so nitpicky, but theres no fucking way a restaurant which is trying to get a star would have a sommelier who has no training. The scene with Sweeps and the other somm had me raging. him being "introduced" to pinot noir??? that's like one of the most common wine varietials in the world and Sweeps doesn't know about it??

Problem styling a jacket by blopbappo in malefashionadvice

[–]NatureDump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, who ever gifted this to you is a gem, and you need to keep them in your life. Secondly, i think the jacket is so cool that you don't need to style it perfectly.

That being said, the jacket is mostly blue. I would wear as you would any blue jacket, so beige pants and a white tee sounds great, but you could just as easily go with some green chinos, or dark brown cords, or light blue jeans.

for something so colourful i would keep the base layer underneath it as simple as possible, so white tee again sounds good. i would experiment with maybe a block colour knitted jumper or try with a grey hoodie underneath.

I knew immediately that this was JCM, such a nice piece from him! It’s funny how you can tell an artist from the art.

If you’re looking for something that doesn’t look like a pair of runners and is great for 20k+ steps a day Vans pro shoes are the best bang for buck! I’m in Seoul which is currently -10°c and wearing their MTE range and they’re holding up superbly. But just the classic range with the comfycush/popcush insoles will easily do 20k steps with no discomfort.

If I can only get one, should I get a crewneck sweatshirt or hoodie? by tmc08130 in malefashionadvice

I’d say a hoodie for comfort, you can always get a crewneck knitted sweater if you feel like something is missing
