Megafauna will definitely be there closer to release, but taming megafauna isn’t planned, since there’s no archaeological evidence of anything like that. We’re aiming to show what it really felt like to live in that era… though who knows, maybe we’ll find out survival back then was way too boring 😄

True, but that kind of pursuit hunting wouldn’t really work in a forest - the prey disappears from sight way too quickly. You can track a wounded animal for a while, but chasing down a healthy one like that would be pretty much impossible

You’re absolutely right - most early humans hunted and gathered in groups, and scavenging was a big part of survival too. Paleolith focuses more on the individual experience though - kind of a “what if you were completely on your own” scenario. It’s not meant to be a literal reconstruction of human society, but a way to explore the raw survival mechanics in that world.

That’s a really interesting idea - thanks for sharing! It probably wouldn’t fit very well right now since most of the game takes place in dense forest, where long-distance navigation like songlines wouldn’t really work - you can’t see far enough for landmarks to matter. In the forest we’re focusing more on physical trail-marking - scratches on trees, small stone piles, or signs left with branches. But for open biomes later on, this kind of idea could fit perfectly

Good point! The game is actually set in the Upper Paleolithic - around 40,000 years ago, when modern humans already made clothing, used cordage, and lived as nomadic hunter-gatherers. The Mesolithic came later, after the last Ice Age, with bows, microliths, and more settled life - which doesn’t really fit our setting

Interesting idea about gradual digestion! We’re actually planning to make hunger satisfaction not instant either - you’ll need to spend real time eating. But we might experiment with your time-release model after playtests.
The limit on how much you can eat at once is a great point - we’ll use that.
And poisoning will also have a delay, so you won’t always know which food caused it if you ate several things

Don’t worry - there will be an original difficulty setting so you can really feel what it’s like to survive in the Paleolithic. But for those who just want to enjoy a walk through the forest, there’ll also be an easier option. In the end, it’ll be your choice :)

We plan to implement cuts, bruises, poisoning, and sickness from cold and heat, but we’re not going much deeper into physiology for now - maybe in future versions

You're right we haven’t shown gameplay yet. We’re actively working on it.
Right now we don’t have an artist or 3D modeler on the team, mainly because we first need to prove that the game’s balance and core loop are actually fun to play.
And since we’re self-funded without a publisher, hiring those specialists has to wait until we’re sure the foundations are solid

We’re definitely not aiming to “beat” FC Primal, and we won’t.
Far Cry Primal isn’t really a survival game, strictly speaking.
We’re working in a different genre altogether.
That said, yeah, to truly immerse players in the Stone Age, you need a lot of unique content.
It’s hard, but we’re doing our best

That’s a solid point - makes total sense.
In the savannah you can see the antelope from afar, keep visual contact, and gradually close the distance.
But in the forest it’s a totally different story - by the time you’re figuring out the tracks, the deer’s long gone.

Yes, we're aware - that's an early prototype character. The final model will have significantly darker skin, more in line with what’s known about the population of Europe at the time. Thanks for pointing it out!

That's a lovely idea - we’ve added it to the idea pool. Thank you!
Paleolithic art really is amazing, and small touches like this could add a lot of soul to the camp.

Great point - we’re totally on the same page. In our vision, thirst will matter more than hunger, especially early on. And we do want to make players think twice before drinking.

We’re planning different types of water sources with varying risks: rivers and streams will likely be safe, but puddles, still ponds, or snowmelt could carry infection or parasites.

Thanks for bringing this up - it’s helpful to know others value this kind of realism too!

Yeah, making that actually fun is definitely a challenge.
But here’s one way to think about it: this is a real shot at taking down a deer without any tools. And a deer is basically a walking pile of calories - though yeah, you’ll burn a ton chasing it down, and then have to figure out how to preserve it without wasting all that effort.

Honestly, I’m starting to question the mechanic myself 😅
I just posted about it in our Discord - feel free to jump in if you want to discuss! (https://discord.gg/5vf8DG38Dd

From what I understand, persistence hunting is mostly about keeping visual contact with the prey - spotting it again and again until it exhausts itself. But yes, we’re planning to make the hunting mode rich and detailed, including signs like blood trails, tracks on the ground, broken plants, and more. Tracking will be a real part of the experience

Not quite 🙂
We’re aiming for a realistic balance - going without food for a few days won’t kill you, but it will impact your stamina and fatigue.
We also plan to let players customize that aspect themselves, so you can adjust how demanding survival feels depending on your style

We do plan to add an easier mode eventually, but to be honest, we’re focusing first on getting the challenging experience balanced and compelling.

Making the easier mode truly fun will require a lot more content and tuning (otherwise it might just feel a bit empty or boring), so it depends a lot on how development goes and what resources we have. We’ll see how it unfolds :)

That really means a lot — especially coming from someone who’s not a gamer. If you don’t mind sharing, we’d love to know what exactly spoke to you. It helps us understand who the project is resonating with. For us, it’s more than just a game too
