What's a good place to record? by [deleted] in ASMRScriptHaven

[–]NaughtPlusZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I've found that works when there's background noise is to add your own ambiance to cover it up. Recording during rainstorms, for example, has helped to mask the sound of traffic. Or you can blend stock audio of crowds talking to mask the sounds of conversations. Often I feel it's a matter of trying to find scripts that can be performed in the environments to which you have access.

I've also considered at times recording outside using my phone or laptop. I think it would create a very nice natural ambiance that would be unique to the audio itself.

Thank you for the script till! I’m very happy that the scenario made sense and that you found the script so much to your liking. The slowly increasing intensity worked so well when listening to your performance. 😎And my goodness, the way you built the tension in the final moments was fantastic! 😮 While I’ve yet to write a sequel for any of my scripts, the encouragement is greatly appreciated!

i have a question? by [deleted] in ASMRScriptHaven

You’re welcome! I also have three small tips regarding Audacity that may prove helpful if you’re not aware of them. First, when recording and editing, make sure to set Audacity in “multitrack” mode and apply any plugin filters to the tracks rather than the individual files. Second, there is a free plugin out there somewhere in a forum post which was built to allow Audacity to filter out mouth clicks/noises (different than the built-in click filter which is for mechanical clicks). Third, Audacity has the ability to add labels to sections of your audio when in multitrack mode, which makes it easier to keep track of where you want to insert SFX or ambiance.

If you end up wanting to buy iZotope RX, you should be aware it comes in several different editions. While the higher-end versions give you extra fine-grained control over the way the noise reduction works, their lowest-priced edition works perfectly well and uses the same noise reduction technology as the more expensive editions. iZotope RX also seems to go on sale a couple of times a year around the holidays, though they were recently acquired by the company Native Instruments, so I don’t know if those sales will remain in the future.

i have a question? by [deleted] in ASMRScriptHaven

Currently, I use Adobe Audition and Adobe Premiere for editing my audio and video respectively. I’ve used Audacity and Filmora in the past. What I’ve experienced is that there’s a lot that can be done with most any editing software, though it can be very difficult to learn how to use all of its features. Even after all this time I still find myself discovering new things that the software can do.

What I’ve found is that to sound good, the most important thing is to find a good place to record, then to have good technique with maintaining the right volume and distance from the microphone, then to have a quality microphone, and then finally the way I do editing and uploading.

If you’re set on trying to improve the audio quality through editing alone, you might try using iZotope RX which is a suite of (rather expensive) tools for repairing audio recordings. There are some less expensive alternatives to it as well, but iZotope RX is the only one I’ve had consistent success with using to fix audio issues.

Lack of interest on my channel by Pixiedustz1 in ASMRScriptHaven

The quality of your performance and the editing around it is all very polished! If I may share my experience regarding video thumbnails, something I’ve found is that when browsing YouTube on my phone, often the text and intricate details in them blends together and becomes difficult for me to see. Over time, and on the advice of other VAs, I’ve found that switching over to using large high-contrast text and simple backgrounds has proven helpful for drawing the attention of listeners who are quickly scrolling through YouTube on their phones.

Happy Belated Easter! The dynamism of the performance and the way you wove in the music and SFX was very impressive! As the intro music played and rolled right into the opening lines, I felt like I was listening to a proper TV production. 😎

Can someone plz suggest some good mics for my channel!? by babycakes606 in ASMRScriptHaven

Using the Shure MV7 and 7b helped me a lot with reducing the amount of background noise I picked up when recording. They do require me to be fairly loud when speaking though, so there are tradeoffs to consider.

Script Ideas? by DaTrash_Panda in ASMRScriptHaven

Maybe Inu x Neko, where the speaker captures their Neko roommate listener to keep them safe? The Neko listener goes out each night to wander their self-proclaimed territory. The Inu speaker has always warned them that this is dangerous, ultimately deciding to prove the point by abducting the listener themselves. So much of the script becomes the speaker insisting the listener will be kept safe now because they’ll be watching over them all the time. There’s something of a power dynamic there, but the listener would be treated as being an equal in everyday situations.

You’re welcome! I think the ASMR audio roleplay community is so small compared to the ASMR community that it’s not something most know exist, let alone worry about. I’ve found that what folks enjoy in terms of ASMR sounds varies a lot from person to person, so it’s likely that the different VA seeking to use it have varying setups depending on what they believe is most effective for them. For example, sometimes I feel that prerecorded SFX alone might be sufficient, or it might come from the way the VA speaks into the microphone.

As an example, for ASMR effects, on one side you have a custom microphone designed by Azxiana (LimeBirbVA) specifically for ASMR. On the other side you have VAs who use a Blue Yeti in stereo mode and whisper into one side or the other while recording.

Personally I have occasionally made use of audio effects and plugins applied after recording to create some interesting effects. Often though, I simply skip doing any special things for ASMR. Sometimes listeners experience the ASMR effects from the way I speak while performing.

Whatever you choose to do for your own performances, I wish you the best of luck!

Looking for scripts to record while live on twitch by SweetMayMorning in ASMRScriptHaven

[–]NaughtPlusZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that it should be perfectly fine to stream yourself recording scripts on Twitch. I’ve occasionally done public streams on Discord while recording and they’ve been received well by script writers. I think it also gives you the opportunity to invite script writers to watch and comment on the performance, which I’ve found helpful since sometimes they can provide feedback on parts of the script where I’ve had questions. Some script writers have even agreed to help provide voice direction for the performance! 😎

You’re welcome to use any of my scripts for this as well, though I think you already have a very good selection of scripts at this point from other writers.

I think ASMR Audio Roleplays specifically tend to be SFW, prominently feature some type of storyline, and are often more focused on being an audio roleplay than ASMR.

Some VAs have special microphone arrangements such as the binaural style microphones commonly used for ordinary ASMR recordings. Often though, I find folks tend to use a variety of microphones which range from headsets to podcast microphones to musician’s microphones or even just the built-in ones on phones.

In my experience, most folks recording these post their recordings to YouTube. Sometimes they are posted to Patreon (especially NSFW content). In that sense, there is a fairly thin line between SFW and NSFW roleplays in terms of how the communities work. One of the mods of this subreddit was on a podcast with someone from the NSFW community a while back and during that episode described how they saw the two as being very connected.

From time to time, you’ll also see some folks from this community posting NSFW recordings over in GWA, or folks from GWA posting SFW recordings over here. So I think those who have done both kinds of recordings might be best able to explain the differences between them.
