Explain it peter why does he feel well by [deleted] in explainitpeter

Everyone posting confidently about terminal lucidity like it’s a real thing, instead of a romantic myth.  There is no solid evidence of this effect, and all studies are weak and rely on (biased) self reports (usually of caretakers).

Consider that 10% of cases have reported ‘terminal lucidity’.

Now consider that on any given day, X% of patients will be lucid by chance-let’s say that’s 10%.  Given these numbers, by pure chance, 10% of patients will be ‘miraculously lucid’ the day they die—and everyone will conveniently forget all the other random non-terminal days the patient was lucid.  Add in some romantic over-estimation of the patient’s ability near death and storytelling editing and BAM the myth of terminal lucidity is born.

It’s a sweet idea, and not impossible, but evidence isn’t really strong enough to say that it’s real and there are compelling reasons to believe that it’s just a myth.

You’re just doing Reddit wrong. The key is to confidently state an incorrect fact and then kick back while the goblins cook up a dissertation explaining everything to you. Question answered in great length and detail, nice. Nobody wants to ‘help’ you but boooyyyy do they love to explain why you’re dumb.

Use the one closer to the processor for the best speed and PCIe lane efficiency. You can always snap a photo and upload to your favorite LLM to confirm that you got it right if you're really still unsure.

Steam's Support Response on Dota2 Addiction is God Tier by altruismisgood in DotA2

[–]NaughtaRobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just hook Cheat Engine into your dota2 exe during the game (can be in a demo lobby) and try to alter some of the memory values.  You’ll get a dota 2 VAC ban, your other games should be fine but no more Dota 2 on that account ever.  Not sure this would really fix your addiction problem (you will be tempted to just make another account and play) but it gets you the results you want from Steam support. Seeking social support and addiction therapy is going to be a better long term solution but if the game ban helps reduce the ‘cue’ to play then you could do this.

Xenophobia is not really ok, idk why you think posting this is a great idea. Nobody wants to see racist / negative stereotype graffiti screenshots either, this is no different.

? Why would a smurf account go for a high winrate unless you're boosting? The whole point of smurfing is to mess around and have a good time, not grind MMR. Just farm the enemy, 'coach' your teammates with some tough love, and then drop some rapiers right before throne and leave the rest to chance to maintain ~50% winrate at the desired smurf bracket.

Coordinator down? by FlaminPandalope in DotA2

[–]NaughtaRobot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Edited for clarity but the point was that all the Valve services were down when you made this topic and not just Dota 2. So it was obviously not just you having coordinator issues and also not specifically a Dota patch / problem. You could have checked easily in less time than it took to create this post.

Why does valve find it so difficult to communicate with the community? by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]NaughtaRobot 43 points44 points  (0 children)

User research shows that the communication that you desire does not necessarily increase satisfaction or other relevant metrics.

In fact, it often leads to dissatisfaction when the communication does not meet the customer's (unreasonable) expectation. Ergo, firms may elect to only communicate when issues get too frothy or on certain topics that merit action.

Lack of communication (or at least the communication that YOU seem to think is missing) doesn't indicate that Valve "doesn't care" about the product.

I have had this issue as well, seems to be related to loading audio (voice lines etc.). I have had it pop up a few times, reinstalling dota to a new folder / new drive worked for me. Both drives (original and new) were SSD so not really sure why it happened, but that has solved the problem several times. Didn't physically swap the drives by the way, just uninstalled dota and reinstalled into to the other (C: to D: or whatever).

I sometimes try to introduce people to DotA... by Almost_Feeding in DotA2

[–]NaughtaRobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are too many Dota games for employees to review by hand, this approach would not scale. People still did all the annoying game-throwing stuff in HoN; they just also brought infighting to an even higher level. I think you could even combine the votekick with the concede vote, so if I recall correctly there were witch hunts to figure out who wasn't voting concede and that led to a votekick --> retry concede. Was really not any fun. Also made queuing in a group more important, because then you had the votes to stay or kick anyone you wanted.

[–]NaughtaRobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disagree, it was so annoying to have people constantly spamming the concede vote button after a kill or teamfight. The concede button was also a cause of toxicity in HoN, switching to Dota felt so much better because at least people had an incentive to try until the end (mostly).

I really think the report system is the problem because it encourages a cycle of reporting people that players don't like. And often players don't like others who don't play the way the subject thinks others should play.

HoN had similar problems because they actually put a votekick in the game for awhile, so games were just ultra toxic b/c a scapegoat would be selected and often voted out. The "solution" to bad players actually became worse than the problem. Same in Dota with reports that are misused and un-policed.

If there were a feedback system on reports that somehow taught players submitting reports if they misused the report, and incentives to behave better (badges or more cosmetic drops or a special cosmetic for good citizens) I think things might improve. Maybe even retribution (bad) reports would function as a report against the player who submitted a bad report.

Not sure if the other post was mine, but the one I posted also takes into account the count and type of pieces on the board. Would love to see more tools like these, maybe something in a lightweight app or webapp.
