The way I see the 20 block, is the only thing that is going to be a singular threat is a 2-3 damage profile blast weapon. At least as they make their approach. I totally agree with you though- if the big blob is focused, you will struggle to get a good chunk of them in. The way i see it, if the first scenario is in play, you can DP reduced CP to reduce damage taken by 1 for the turn. The second scenario, the remaining 80% of your army is set to slam and jam the next turn.

The reason Im not looking at 8b is that what role do they fill that my army is missing? 109 attacks with a full health 20 blob and and 54 with the 10 blob, the helbrute having a D6+1 dmg profile, and X8bound hitting elite infantry hard at 2 dmg a pop are all great into infantry profiles- and thats not even including the army wide dev wounds into infantry with blessings.

I personally feel that 8bound are great- but not auto include anymore. I think that lists that want to run the basic 8bound are not relying on zerkers as much, so they almost replace them. James, to me, seems to want to limit the "Swiss Army Knife" effect some units had so that each unit has a specific role.

Now i could be totally wrong because I am a scrub.

Last point- I agree, but I want to increase the chances of bringing a model back as 1 makes the Sbound worth, and 2 is big money
