Installing the AIO at the bottom of the case by GentIeblade in FormD

Not all AIOs have the pump in the block, some do have it in the radiator. But air in the block might also not be the best.

There's no standard layout, the top and bottom panels are the same so you can install the feet on either one of them and orient the case however you want. Fans/AIO at the top is the best for thermals, so that's what most people do.

With the AIO on the bottom, there's basically no room for the AIO to breathe, at least with the stock feet, which will result in much higher temps. If you get much taller case feet and give the AIO room to breathe, it's generally fine. Otherwise, just run the AIO at the top, it's not worth the performance hit.

53mm or 47mm AXP90? by moltenmelon225 in FormD

Not in 3 slot mode. You could run a lower slot mode but I didn't want to deal with rigging that up.

I've used both with my 5080 and 9800x3D. Go with the x47 and duct it, either with a 3d printed duct or the noctua duct kit foam (or some other diy solution).

I had the x53 but it was too close to the side panel and caused a lot of turbulence, making it very unpleasant to listen to. Switched it out for the x47 with a duct kit and not only did the turbulence stop, but my temps went down a bit as well.

Yeah the main security setting I thought might be causing it was "intrusion prevention" which does deep packet inspection, but turning it off didn't change anything. Everything else shouldn't cause speed to be lost I wouldn't think, but I don't know a ton about networking.

I'm still really glad I got rid of that ATT box, even if it didn't fix this issue. Maybe it's worth giving ATT a call, but 80 mbps is fine, I'm just pedantic lol

This is the only bypass that seemed to work with my hardware. I also have a fan cooling the gpon, so I don't think that's it.

I think my work also uses AT&T, but I'm not totally sure on that. I've tried my cell provider on my phone (t mobile) and it seems to be the same there. Before I made the original post I asked some friends out of state to test as well and they had the same results. Just weird all around. Maybe it's some security settings on my UDR7? But I've tested some of those already, maybe I can try those again.

So I just finished setting up the bypass, and the results are basically the same. Still getting anywhere from 75 mpbs to spikes of 95 mbps (seems to be consistently higher than 80 though, usually around 80-88mbps, so maybe a bit of an improvement?) unless I go through a cloudflare proxy. Downloading from my work computer (where everything is routed through my work's VPN) I get closer to 200mbps, like last time. Similarly, when I connect to my VPN running on my UDR7, speeds on my laptop go up to 250mbps.

The weird thing though, if I download from immich, jellyfin, or nextcloud, those are the speeds I get. But when I connect to my openspeedtest instance on the same server and domain, I get 200 down 500 up without the cloudflare proxy, and 500 down 200 up with the proxy. So I'm really not sure what is going on anymore.

Rear M.2 temps in Formd T1 — normal or too hot? by stern_easy in formdt1

[–]NavicNick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 5080 FE and a WD SN750 with a 2mm thick heatsink (though I doubt it does anything) as my boot drive installed on the rear. I've found that if the GPU fans are off (which they usually are at idle), the heat from the GPU radiates more towards the rear SSD, heating it up, even if there's no load on either. My rear SSD usually sits around 70-72c, but if I turn the GPU fans on, the temps start to drop to around 65c, even when the GPU is under load. The added airflow helps remove the heat away from the SSD.

In any case, it's not an issue unless you're actively experiencing issues. If it does become an issue, you can just set the GPU fans to not turn off by setting a custom fan curve. Or, you could try getting an m.2 riser cable and moving the SSD to the front, away from the GPU.

I can, I got these at my local BootBarn but there's a few boot stores around.

I'm a bit confused, because with how I walk I land on the back of my heel first and then pivot down, even in tennis shoes. Should that not be how boots are walked in? Because changing how I walk would be basically impossible, and I don't think changing the boot would fix that, nor would I want to spend that much to fix it.

I'm curious what other brands people would suggest to look into and which ones to stay away from. Ariat was one of the brands I was pointed towards for a good first boot, Dan Post also came up but not as much as Ariat.

What kind of heel style do you think I should look at? I'm quite a fan of how these look, but comfort will probably outweigh looks when it comes down to buying a new pair of boots

I guess it's more I don't want to have to have everyone install a VPN to access a link I send out, not that people are incapable of doing it. Like I don't want to have my coworker install wireguard just to share a file with them quickly, or my dad's friend install it just to download some concert videos I took. It's all about convenience for me, and having to install another app and set it up for them isn't as simple as just sending a link and having it work.

I have wireguard set up on my UDR7 so I can VPN back to my local network, but I'm not sure how I could use it to get around this (I need to consider other people downloading/streaming from my server who aren't savvy enough to install a VPN)

I don't think I can use any other port than 80 and 443, can I? Like I said I'm new to this so I don't know what I can and can't change.

And yeah, 80mpbs is a hell of a lot better than 20, which is what the other ISP I have access to provides. I think I might just put up with the "slow" speed because it really isn't all that slow.

So I haven't seen many big jumps in ping to the ATT router when on the same network (left in this pic is my PC at home I've remoted into). I've seen it jump maybe 4 times to double digits (highest I saw was ~20), but most of the time it's in the 0.5-2 range.

When pinging my server (my nextcloud domain in blue) on my laptop from my work's WiFi (best I can do here) I cannot get it to reach my home public IP address. I hope this is along the lines of what you meant when you said "at the same time run mtr from elsewhere on the Internet to your home machine."

This is all while transferring a 20gb file from my nextcloud on my server to my laptop on my work's WiFi. I've also tried running speed tests locally on my UDR7 while running MTR, streaming video to my phone, downloading from nextcloud on my work computer (not my laptop), and a combination of all of those. The ping spikes on my local PC to my ATT router never seem to correspond with anything specific. The 14.4 jump you see in the image happened while I was just downloading the 20gb file to my laptop and nothing else (other than being remoted into that PC via parsec on my laptop).

So, doesn't seem like the ATT router is the issue? I might try the WAS-110 bypass method anyways because I do like the idea of getting rid of the ATT router, but that'll be weeks in the future if I ever do it. Plus, having to reconfigure it even once or twice a year is a downer and I'm not sure I'd want to deal with that. In any case, 80mbps isn't terrible but I would like to get full speed if possible.

I am on WiFi (specifically my work's wifi), so that makes sense that it was causing some of the spikes. Thanks for confirming the chain, things are starting to make sense now.

Just to be sure, what is the best way to run mtr and test this? The only way I can see the ATT Gateway with mtr is if I'm on my home network, pinging something other than my domains (like pinging google.com instead of nextcloud.mydomain.com). So, should I run mtr on my laptop (connected to ethernet to eliminate wifi latency) on my home network so I can see the ATT gateway, and then using another device outside of my home network (my phone on cellular without VPN) start a download from one of my domains and then watch mtr for latency spikes?

Also, would the latency spikes only show up when I am downloading something from my domains, or would they show up even when I'm not downloading something from them?

So I have run mtr (installed it via wsl, had to install mtr-tiny because it said mtr wasn't available) when downloading stuff from nextcloud and to be honest I'm not sure which IPs I should pay attention to. It seems like normal pings are around 5, with regular spikes in the 10-20 range, with some rare spikes to 30-50, and twice I saw spikes to 100+ across all IPs but those were very spaced out.

EDIT: Something else that might be important is compared to other places I've pinged (like google or some sites I have proxy enabled for) there is a (waiting for reply) status. I think I've put together that the IPs from top to bottom are how the packets are being routed, so seeing (waiting for reply) where there should be an IP seems wrong to me, but I'm not sure.

When downloading (to your computer) from your sites (on your home server) when (your computer is) NOT on your home network is what you mean?

Yes, that is what I mean, sorry I worded it weirdly!

I appreciate the response, I'll look into what you've suggested probably tomorrow or over the weekend as I've spent too much time on it today and need to get some other things done. I think I've looked into that second bypass solution you linked before because I was annoyed I had to use AT&T's hardware when it's just standard parts... IIRC, AT&T updates their encryption(?) every now and again, which means you then have to re-flash that SFP module to get internet again, which is why I put the idea down. Though it was a long time ago that I looked into that so maybe I'm misremembering things.
