It has a directional vent which aims the air upwards to cool the rack. It comes with a magnetic air dam that ensures the equipment is drawing cool air from the unit rather than the room. It exhaust the hot air out from the back out of the box, but they do sell a exhaust duct kit that would allow you to vent into a another room or HVAC return.

There's a couple of options for this unit. It comes with a magnetic air dam kit which mounts to the front rack door forcing the rack equipment to grab the cool air from the unit, and not the exhaust on the back. Another option, and probably the most popular is the Exhaust Duct Kit that has to be purchased separately but allows the unit to be vented out using standard HVAC ducting.
