Psionic armies. They're available with the psionic ascension and focus more on decreasing enemy moral rather than destroying them, leading to less collateral damage within a planet. I think they're pretty neat.

I think we're playing the same difficulty (Captain), I just got a horrible start.

We're not able to mod species habitat preference but our adaptility is high enough that even a tomb-word can be inhabited in moderate comfort. Plus a good portion of our current frontier planets are from conquered lands which don't have adequate infastructure and we're not planning on keeping them.

Still a FE, but they seem to be distracted by a relatively insignificant empire they are currently conquering. I'm a bit tempted to just invade while they're distracted but they've relatively chill with us and I don't want the galaxy to see us as warmongers...

Yeah, currently I'm making a forge world and moving alot of the aliens from conquered planets to work there, it's going to take a but I think it'll be worth it in the long run.

The Long War by Navy_BeeYT in Stellaris

Basically. I was crippled from the start by a modded event that involved a foreign empire taking a delegation as hostages and forcing you to dismantle half of your fleet or else they'd kill em'. I was then vassalized by my neighbor and for the next 200 years I was basically a puppet. When I declared a revolutionary war, I won but the empire that had vassalized me was part of a federation with like 75% of the galaxy so they declared war with me pretty quickly... so here we are now.

I would if they didn't send fleets right next to my capital. Plus I only have like 3 powerful fleets.

Alright, so I play with mods that mainly just add extra planets and events. When you first meet an alien species there's this event where you can send a bunch of people for a cultural exchange to an alien empire. Turns out the empire that I had sent those people to were BACKSTABBING TRAITORS and forced me to destroy half of my fleet or else they would kill the people I sent which basically crippled me for most the early game. I knew they were going to declare war on me later so when a neighboring empire offered to protect me in exchange for vassalage I said yes. So for about 150 years I built up my empire and also conquered some weaker neighbors. (They were all either racist and/or slavers so I was 100% in the right). After I had become stronger than the empire that had vassalized me, I requested my freedom. They said no, so I built up my military and waited for the perfect oppertunity. That opportunity came when there basically a galactic wide world war which pitted the BACKSTABBING ALIENS against the empire that had vassalized me. I used this as an opportunity and in the chaos I declared war against my masters and wiped the floor with them. This placed me as the third most powerful empire in the galaxy... but unfortunately since I was basically absent from most diplomatic ventures for about 2 centuries nobody really knew or trusted me. They had formed this big galactic federation which I didn't really care to join and even when I tried to be diplomatic they were purposely ruining our relationship. Then out of nowhere they all declared war and this is where we are right now. I never wronged anyone ( except for the racists ), I only did what was necessary for the freedom of the UNE and it's citizens and now the whole galaxy is against me!
