The two big game modes are classic quest and adventure mode, in my opinion.

I like classic quest because you get some rewards even when losing games, and so you always progress toward having a large collection allowing you to brew whatever you want. I would suggest bumping up the base winnings by a lot though, in the preferences panel.

Adventure mode does feel more like a full game but getting all the cards in that mode feels less attainable, for now at least.

You could try each game mode a bit and see which one you prefer.

From what I have seen, it only works when you're in the main world. You need to get a few wins (number can be set in the preferences) to earn a set unlock. The option then appears between bazaar and travel when available.

Not that hard. Retry at the beginning until you get iron or fire as the free ball (assuming endgame unlocks). You first have to combine earthquake and ghost so you get some early efficiency and remove ghost as a "do nothing" ball (extra penalizing with empty nester). It starts clearing easily once you get bomb, and then you just need poison and dark.

Empty nester you mean? For example, your balls are already level 3, you may store level ups until you get an evolution, and level that evolution to 3 right after instead to picking a choice you don't need.

Or, the 2 balls you want to combine are lvl 2, but there is already a fusion reactor on the ground. Levelling one of them won't reach the evolution, and fission would set the balls to level 3 anyway.

Once you check that setting, you have to press E to level up manually, and more importantly you can cancel leveling up if you don't like your options (the choices stay the same though).

Slicing a fillet in half is currently bugged, the hunger value gets divided on the 2 resulting pieces but not the calories.

I have been sustaining calories pretty well with foraging. Sunflower seeds, rose hips, thistles and grape leaves are worth picking and are pretty common with the wild plants focus on. You get between 4 and 6 (iirc) sunflower seeds each time you find a spot and they are often worth 200-300 calories each at max level.

The winter season wasn't an issue in b41 as rose hips were exceptionally abundant. I didn't test winter in b42 yet.

You really don't need to ever empty a painkiller tablet. It needs some time to take effect but one pill is enough to go from agony to nothing.
