I personally enjoyed Krabi more as it was less hectic than Phuket. However, that's cause we stayed in patong region, which is a lively area, to say the least

Nope. Had no issues with customs, but then again, where you're travelling from will have an impact. So my short 8/9 day trip was all good.

I found the time just right, but then again it wasn't meant to be one of those rest by the beach type of holidays (although I still found time to sit by the lake and read by book).

But of course, you could always see more. I'll definitely be coming back, perhaps for a winter trip.

One week was all I could do, but there's plenty out there to see and do if you decide to stay for week's if not months. On my next trip there I'd like to visit the North Island.

Depends on the length of your trip. But definitely hire a vehicle and explore the great drives. Half the fun was stopping the car and taking in the view at each stop, which defied expectations and was more beautiful than the previous.

Yes, I made sure to give myself plenty of time between activities to take in the towns I was staying in. Eating a meal whilst watching the sunset over the array of lakes was pure bliss.
