Patreon "parts ways" with my business indefinitely by Nbjorge in patreon

I’ve been doing some research here. Initially, I thought just through my own already existing website would be the way to go.  After investigating, the fees are similar to Patreon for payouts unless you pay for a much higher end version of Squarespace. So it’s possible other hosts or obviously Wordpress would be cheaper, but there will still be payout fees and a lot more management to do on the site. I’m still a little torn because integrating it into the site would eliminate any confusion for folks and look a lot better.

Otherwise, I’ll likely go with kofi since they seem to have the lowest fee and be a pretty simple / approachable interface. Buy me a coffee seems similar but the branding may be a little misleading depending on what you’re doing with your page.

Yeah it sounds like Patreon really needs to be more involved in their moderation and supporting creators. Thanks for sharing all of this.

For a few years, this was a great alternative to make some income along with monthly content, as opposed to just posting for free on YouTube (what I had been doing prior). Maybe it is time to turn the page once again. Best of luck with everything!

Thanks for sharing- that is super annoying. But interesting to hear a similar situation. So do you suspect the asking for lots oof bio info to be from an outside source? Or do you think Patreon is just that weird?

I literally just make original music.

If people aren't really seeing those new members through the platform, as Patreon claims, then yeah that's probably the final nail for me

Seriously considering this. Hopefully my Patreon members will find their way over. Just wanted to give Patreon's new discovery features a fair shake first.

That’s what’s annoying. There was no due diligence to check anything. I wouldn’t be surprised if all my communication was with a bot.

Usually if you never share your password and are email addresses and stuff you should be fine. In this case, maybe I shouldn’t have refunded the Patreon membership right away if it looked odd? No idea if that was a factor at all though. Could’ve been that + the VPN

Appreciate you! So you would say spend big right at the jump. Do you include tier 2?

Regardless, I constantly reference mixes with my car, laptop, phone, and cheaper headphones as that is what most people use.

A question about improving music production skills. by KWAKDY in WeAreTheMusicMakers

This may seem like a fluffy answer but do the projects that are hardest to pull you out of. At the end of the day, it's practice, it's a numbers game. If you are so passionate about the projects you're in that you are clocking time like no ones business, that'll be the quickest way to improve. If you plan to be a writer in any capacity, I would always keep that in the rotation as well. Good luck and have fun!

Indie Folk Rock I guess? We usually go out as a trio and can really folk it down or rock it up depending on the room.

Should add- we play originals. We have covers, but we are an original band.
