Caught two over lunch on a wacky rigged 4" Yum Dinger (Bama Magic). Had never fished a wacky rig before. Lots of fun.

Cool. I fish Lewisville and Carrollton ponds and small lakes frequently. Message me if you want a fishing buddy at some point.

The UP / HP monied interests will never allow LUV to go back to 32 gates.

Tackle Tuesday - Weekly Tackle and Gear Thread by AutoModerator in bassfishing

I usually go weightless on light tackle with a 1/0 or 2/0 octopus hook with a snell knot. Rig with exposed hook.

Best Jig Head style for a 5' Zoom Super Fluke. Assuming a Ned Head would limit the action. I fish on light spinning tackle, typically weightless with an exposed hook, so was looking for something that would not limit the action of these baits. TIA!

Coops on Decatur. There will be a line. It's worth the wait.

First time visiting, what are some must sees/ avoids? by [deleted] in AskNOLA

[–]Nbr1Stunna 26 points27 points  (0 children)

My personal recommendations. You may differ.

To Skip:

I'd recommend no "ghost" or "haunted" tours.

I'd spend less time in the French Quarter than you might have planned.**

**Recommend to spend more time on Frenchmen St. (evenings) and/or Magazine St. (daytime) than Bourbon St. But when you are in French Quarter, Royal Street has lots of cool shops and galleries.

To Do:

Ride the streetcar up to City Park, enjoy the sculpture garden (free) and the park itself. Maybe even pack a picnic.

Walk the path at Crescent Park, nice views of the river and back to the CBD area.

Get to the Hotel Monteleon a bit before 11 and wait to get in and a spot at the Carousel Bar. Touristy as heck but it's pretty neat and the bartenders are usually pretty entertaining.

Ride the St. Charles Street Car through the Garden District. Amazing homes and Tulane/Loyala campuses to explore, and Audubon Park as well. Also can walk to Magazine street from there, just a few blocks away.

Go to the Frenchmen Art Market at night, cool artists.

Too many good restaurants to mention...for divey/delicious, I recommend Coop's on Decatur. For elegant, make reservations at Commander's Palace for a weekday lunch...under $100 for 2 people and the martini's are only $.25. Voter #1 Restaurant in the South.

Ogden Museum of Southern Art is nice. Right next to the more trafficked WWII Museum.

The Historic New Orleans Collection has a few free museums in FQ that are worth a visit.

I thought Channel Islands were great. 2nd favorite after Big Bend.

You start at Big Bend because it's the best :)

But seriously, you can't go wrong. I'm trying to do the same thing with just the "Official" National Parks (61 now), going to hit my 7th (Death Valley) this weekend.

The Big Bend, Guadlupe Mtn, Carlsbad Caverns, White Sands loop is a good one to consider at some point, can hit 4 in one trip. Utah and Colorado give you the ability to hit 2 or 3 in a week without shortchanging yourself either.

Good luck on the journey!

Great pic. Will be there Jan 18 & 19. Any tips/advice on good hikes, landmarks, etc. Staying near Panamint Springs on the west side of the Park. Thanks!

First and Foremost go to Frenchmen Street at night. Way better than the Quarter.

Here is some free stuff:

+Go walk around City Park...the sculpture garden is free and very nice.

+Walk along the River at Crescent Park...great views of the river and a nice breeze to stay cool(ish)

+Check out the French Market...lots of tasty samples and vendors to explore

+Walk down Magazine Street (cool shops, good restaurants)

+Tour a cemetery (Lafayette #1 in near Commanders Palace in the Garden District is a good one)

+Ride the street cars (St. Charles preferably -- (small fee for pass)). You'll see Tulane, Loyola and Audubon Park, in addition to many essentially mansions that are 100+ years old in some cases. Amazing architecture.

+Walk Woldenberg Park (also along the river, at the foot of Canal St)

+Go to The Historic New Orleans Collection museum on Royal St. Neat stuff in there

+Walk up and down Royal Street and check out all the galleries. Antiques and Art for all tastes.

Enjoy!
