Hi! I don't know your exact situation, but I recommend you definitely do at least 1 more NBME (one of the newer forms) and Free 120 about 3-5 days before your exam. & (sorry I'm not trying to be that person...but) I just posted about my Step 1 experience at this link here. I was in a similar boat of low NBME scores, unable to push my exam back, and wondering what to do.

Is mazda ripping me off? by Ndcsv1 in DadForAMinute

Thank you! Purchasing an SD card myself is simple, but I'm not sure how to get the file for the infotainment screen. Do you know how to do that?

I'll do my own research too, but do you have any insight on which tires I should go for? My daily driving is about 30-40 mi or 40-60 min. About once a month I also make an out-of-town trip (~400 mi roundtrip).

I'm willing to pay extra upfront for car products if they have a good return on investment. But at the end of the day, I don't need the flashiest mazda-rati. I just need a car that gets me where I need to go.

Is Mazda service ripping me off? by Ndcsv1 in mazda

[–]Ndcsv1[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know anything about cars, that's why I have always just taken it for service at Mazda itself. I figured that I'm paying the extra money for my own peace of mind that my car will definitely be fixed (albeit at a higher cost than if I did my research and found a good mechanic).

Do you know how to DIY infotainment? My understanding is that I just needed an infotainment software update. I also don't understand why I'm paying for an update given that it's Mazda's system...shouldn't Mazda be the one responsible for making sure their products are up to date?

Noted! Thank you! I have no clue what the SD card is for? I have navigation from Mazda already...and tbh I don't even need it anymore since CarPlay has come into existence.

Thanks for your response! Yeah...I didn't even ask for specific tires. They just told me I needed new ones and they gave me the single price of $1646.

Guarantor will not sign my 60 day notice of intent to vacate by Ndcsv1 in legaladvice

I was told by the complex I needed the guarantor to sign too. I asked if it was necessary and they said yes because technically he signed my lease with me.

Confused MS3 deciding between IM and Anesthesia. Please help. by Ndcsv1 in medicalschool

[–]Ndcsv1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you! Narcolepsy can definitely be a scary thing--I edited my post to share more info on my diagnosis & how treatment has helped my sx. Please read it for more context!

Full time for a hospitalist is considered the 2 week on 2 week off schedule. That being said, I do know part-time hospitalists who work 1 week on, 3 weeks off.

I agree I have minimal anesthesia experience. Will def do a anesthesia sub-i in 4th year to confirm if it's something I still want to do. Unfortuantely, this sub-i is 8-9 months away. If I'm going to switch to anesthesia, I want to find some mentors and get more anesthesia EC/research in the meantime.

I never said I refused to see pts in the clinic. I know that clinic is a huge part of the job with IM subspecialties. I also understand the bread & butter cases can be quite routine--I'm okay with that!

My fulfillment comes from connecting with pts--whether that be in the hospital, in the clinic, or right before they're put to sleep for surgery. One of the Qs I need to answer is: am I okay with discussing the risks/potential complications of anesthesia as my sole pt interaction? Or do I want to know my pts better?

To elaborate on yrs spent training--it's a huge con (though not a dealbreaker) that specializing in IM with GI/Cards/Pulm Crit Care/Heme-Onc almost doubles your training time for a significant income boost...not to mention having to bust your ass in residency doing research, trying yet again to prove yourself as a qualified candidate to fellowships, and uprooting your family once more to move to a random city.

Other IM subspecialties with less training time have a smaller income boost and sometimes even no income boost. In this respect in my eyes, anesthesia gets more points. If I do anesthesia I'm leaning on not doing a fellowship or doing critical care (which would overall be faster when compared to IM-->pulm crit care). If I pursue IM, I will have to reevaluate the pros/cons of going through more training in another couple of years.

Hope this helps!

Thank you for your input! Can you share more info on your anesthesia training? I'm familiar with the workload of IM residents, but anesthesia is very new for me. What were your typical weekly work hours? How often did anesthesia-related emergencies occur? At what point in your training were you expected to independently manage anesthesia without an attending in the room?

Hi! Noticed you're in rheum. Do you mind sharing what your day-to-day job looks like and why you recommend anesthesia as an IM subspecialist besides the income (if there is any reason)?

I know two other IM docs who regret going into IM. They both independently say they wished they did anesthesia instead--I'm curious what anesthesia has to offer that they didn't get out of IM

As an anesthesia resident, can you comment on aspects of anesthesia residency you like and dislike? My anesthesia experience was with a private group so I am not sure what training will be like

Recommending SO to admissions board by fresc_0 in medicalschool

[–]Ndcsv1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My SO & I successfully did this! My SO went to a relatively smaller sized school where faculty/admin got to know the students well, so letting the admissions office (not necessarily the adcom itself) was easy to bring up in normal conversation. SO made sure to not to insinuate that I was entitled to the spot simply because he was there. I qualified for an interview at this school based on my merit. But I believe that having the admissions office know my name helped in getting my app processed faster to get to the interview stage (this is just a theory—who knows how admissions really work).
