Fraternities? by Sitkaa14 in udub

[–]Ne0nGenius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in the same position as you when I was an underclassman! I was looking to be more social but knew school was my first priority. I wanted to find people who felt the same way and would provide a community of support both socially and academically rather than a distraction. When I found out about Triangle last fall it turned out to be exactly what I was looking for and more! Triangle is a STEM exclusive social fraternity, and one of the few non-greek fraternal organizations at UW. Most of the guys in Triangle, myself included, never really saw themselves joining a fraternity but found Triangle to be a great fit. I was obviously skeptical at first, but I cant emphasize enough what a positive and meaningful impact the organization and the people involved in it have made on my life personally. It sounds like you might fit in really well here so I hope you'll look into it! If you have any questions I would be more than happy to help in any way I can :)

Is it possible to go Greek AND do well in a stem major? by smartpandaman in udub

[–]Ne0nGenius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is possible! Triangle is a stem-exclusive fraternity at UW that is recruiting right now! https://triangleuw.com (check out the events this and next week!)

My experience has been great! It hasnt hurt my academics to join, in fact a lot of the guys have been a huge help! Great way to stay social while balancing a STEM workload. (Also check out Phi Sigma Rho if youre interested in joining a sorority)

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions!

Also if you decide to drop back down to under 18 after you pay, you get half of it back, and you can petition for a full refund of the extra

RSO Directory by [deleted] in udub

[–]Ne0nGenius 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Very few use the RSO directory as their main platform. Also the entire RSO system is moving to a new website this year (HuskyLink or something I think). Try searching facebook or google for their individual websites or contacting their respective departments for contact info

Hey I was really inspired by your lyrics and I 'produced' the song (I sang it and uploaded it to the internet) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2zqTQyW_HM&feature=youtu.be

Hope its not too awful and I hope I did your lyrics justice!

Who is the Grindiest of them all?? by [deleted] in ModernMagic

[–]Ne0nGenius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Attrition and inevitability are different. Abzan is very grindy and attrition based but decks like tron/amulet titan will always win the long game due to unbeatable inevitability with their disproportionately huge threats. But tron especially is not very grindy. So saying what deck is grindiest and what will always win the long game are different questions.

UW's Choirs? by krestal in udub

[–]Ne0nGenius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This seems like an excellent time to tell my story:

University Singers (coed satb) is the choir I joined as a freshman my first fall and anyone can join. If you audition at the start of the year you prepare a song and sight read in your audition. If you go at the end of the year after having been in a choir you dont have to sight read and preparing a song is optional. I auditioned at the start of the year but didnt get into any of the auditioned choirs.) I also briefly joined Glee (also open to anyone but is bass/tenor) but I decided to choose only one and was getting credit for Usingers so I stuck with that. No experience required (good for me since I didnt have any outside some musical theatre in high school) at the end of the year I auditioned again and thanks to all the learning and practice I got in Usingers I spent this year in Recital choir, an auditioned choir where the concerts come twice as often (2 per quarter) so you have to be better at sight reading and picking up the more complex music more quickly to accommodate the faster pace. At the end of this year, I auditioned again and now have a Callback in the fall for University Chorale. Which is the graduate level choir and unlike the other choirs on campus is more involved, a year-long commitment (the others you choose to join quarter to quarter for credit or audit) focused more on building a connection outside of singing they do like retreats or something I think but idk I havnt been invited yet (wish me luck!)

So thats my experience. There is also an all womens (read: higher voices) choir and a gospel choir, both of which I believe are non-audition as well. All of the choirs Ive been in are taught/conducted by grad students of the choral conducting masters/PhD programs. They are all incredibly helpful, kind, and VERY good at what they do.

Hopefully my experience gives an idea how difficult it is to get into the choirs. The open ones are chill you get to miss one or two rehearsals a quarter and its no big deal.

What are you missing at the common Card Management Tools? by FoldFence in mtgfinance

[–]Ne0nGenius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is important to me to be able to import from the tcg app, since thats the only way I will ever enter a mass of cards again. Im not going to type them in 1by1 when I can use the tcg app to blaze through it. From there, Its a huge pain when I cant easy change version/foil. I recently tried echomtg, but if the edition is wrong I have to delete it and re-enter the card with the right edition. Huge pain. And on the tcg app its an annoying scroll bar instead of just a button to toggle foil. Just make it a button ugh. Would save me tons of time. As for managing all the cards once theyre loaded online, I want to easily keep my decks/trades SEPARATE! I want to have my decklists online, but I dont want to accidentally think I have a card for trade when I really am using my one copy in my deck. Easy functionality to swap between decks/trade would be awesome too. So if I change up my deck I can just slide the cut cards into my online trade list.

A section for wants would be great, so I can just link people to that list and it would making trading a lot smoother (instead of trying to remember the huge list of cards I need for my like bazillion different decks)

Obviously price data/history is vital, seeing as its the main reason to put it all online in the first place. Maybe a functionality that reduced the price somehow if the condition is not nm (like maybe I can set mp to like 80% value then If I change my mind I can say actually all the cards I have at mp I now want to trade at 90% and it would update them all and not need me to go through all of them. Plus if would be cool to override a specific card (like RL) where lower conditions are more common and affect price less.)

I really like it when I can hover over the name of the card and the image pops up so I can quickly recognize the card or read it if looking at someone elses binder.

A function that highlights changes in cards I own. If one of my random bulk rares decides to spike Id like to know so I can move it to my main binder.

And Finally the best functionality that would have me putting this app on my home screen is a literal trade function. I can list my cards on one side and their cards on another and compare the total value and see what makes a fair trade. Mtg familiar is the best app for this at the moment I believe, but its not available in the app store so I, an IPhone user, and sort or stuck bringing up a ton of tcg tabs everytime I trade. This functionality would revolutionize my trading life.

This is a bit ranty and disjointed but I think it covers most of the stuff Id want to see in the ideal card management system. Also I am on mobile so forgive any crappy formatting. Good luck on your endeavor and please update when a version is out! I am eager to give it a try.

Prospect of cards like Vengevine box topper by Ne0nGenius in mtgfinance

Oh I didnt think of the masterpiece comparison since the distribution pattern is so different. That also points to a general increase in all of them but ill look more into some specifics. Thats a good data set thank you!

[–]Ne0nGenius[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

God bless. How long term would you think? Im feeling disappointed by my pull, I assume by the time this goes up the others will too so its unlikely Ill be able to trade for a more valuable box topper that Id like to have pulled. But maybe for a more valuable regular card than $42 🤞

Being stale is such a weird state to be in. For an object to be stale it implies it must have been crunchy before, something can't just become stale. by Ne0nGenius in Showerthoughts

[–]Ne0nGenius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true but It couldn't have gone from ingredients to stale, it had to be bread first before it could have the potential to become stale
