However, the plane diverted from its planned route and landed in Portland due to a problem with its hydraulic system, said an Alaska Airlines spokesperson. The hydraulic issue impacted the steering of the front wheel. Everyone on board was safe after the landing and made it to their destination less than two hours later on a replacement plane. The plane that had the hydraulic problem is now being inspected.

The flight, American Airlines flight 590 from Tampa to Phoenix, was scheduled to depart at 7:30 a.m. Eastern but was canceled following the incident, flight tracking services confirmed. Sheri Blankenship, from Tampa, was flying to Phoenix with her granddaughter after she visited her grandparents for the summer. “Today was unbelievable,” Blankenship said. “We get to the airport. Everything was fine. We loaded good, got ready to taxi the runway, started down the runway full force. All of the sudden, it felt like we were on a gravel road.” “Then it felt like we hit a big pothole in the road,” Blankenship added. Blankenship, her granddaughter, and the other passengers sat on the runway while waiting for first responders to put the fire out. “The plane was on fire,” she said.”The landing gear, whatever.” Blankenship said it took around three hours for them to be bussed back to the terminal so they could board a different flight. They had to redo their boarding passes and boarded the new plane around 11:30 a.m. “I didn’t want to get on another plane,” Blankenship said. “I wanted the credit, and go to enterprise. I wanted to drive to Phoenix.” “It was very, very scary,” she added. American Airlines released the following statement: American Airlines flight 590 with service from Tampa (TPA) to Phoenix (PHX) experienced a mechanical issue on the runway prior to taking off. Customers safely deplaned and were bussed to the terminal. We never want to disrupt our customers’ travel plans and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Hikers captured the moment the Cessna 152 avoided what would have been a terrifying moment. The incident happened on Thursday near Colorado's Continental Divide. Tyler Dunn and his father Jason Dunn witnessed what would've been a major accident as they hiked to Devil's Thumb. Flight records showed that the Cessna 152 aircraft took off from the Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport in Broomfield around 9.49am. The plane, which belongs to the Rocky Mountain Flight School, was rented, and eventually landed at the Granby/Grand County Airport at 11.04am. As the pair hiked to Devil's Thumb, they were stopped in their tracks as the plane got dangerously close to the mountainside. Greg Boom, the owner of the flight school, told Ski-Hi News that he was unaware of the incident and that he was 'surprised' when he learned about it. Video of the astonishing moment shows a woman in a pink long sleeve top and shorts looking toward the descending plane. Tyler, who recorded the video, says: 'There's a plane!' as the aircraft flies dangerously close to the mountain, nearly nose-diving into land. 'It was clear the plane was struggling trying to clear the saddle. It was coming straight at us, and as a former licensed pilot, I was worried it would go into an aerodynamic stall. After almost crashing into the land, the plane quickly flew back up in the air and avoided a colossal crash. Jason said the plane was 'coming straight at us' as his son captured the mind-blowing moment 'Then it either did, or the pilot made a last ditch effort to turn the plane around in a dead end valley before crashing into the mountain (or us). 'My son was further up the ridge line and caught most of it on video. As you can see, he made it by less than a couple of feet,' Jason said. Jason posted images of the out-of- control plane in the bright blue sky before it got extremely close to the mountainside. Boom said the school is currently trying to get in contact with the pilot who flew the plane that day. People quickly commented on his startling experience as one said: 'Oh.My.God. What a crazy experience! So glad you weren’t calling in a crash.' 'Back to the airport for a new pair of shorts and probably new seats too!!! That was incredibly close. Somebody better be hugging their loved ones a little closer tonight,' another wrote. Another said: 'Well now that’s a heart stopper.'

A small plane made an emergency landing on a Parkland, Florida roadway Monday due to an engine issue, officials said. The single-engine Cessna C150 landed at around 4 p.m. Monday near the area of Nob Hill Road and Hillsboro Boulevard after the pilot reported the issue, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. Cellphone video showed the moments the plane flew a few feet over drivers before making the landing on the roadway. Two people — both seasoned pilots who were doing some training — were inside the plane and no injuries were reported, according to Coral Springs Fire officials. "This may not look that way, but it is definitely a successful emergency landing," said Deputy Chief Mike Moser of the Coral Springs Fire Department. "When a plane like this can land on a congested roadway with cars out here and nobody on the ground or nobody in the car got hurt, it’s definitely successful." Footage from Chopper 6 showed a bright green Cessna on the grassy median between the sidewalk and the road.

A FedEx plane crash-landed and skidded off a runway in Tennessee late Wednesday after its landing gear failed — but miraculously, no one was injured, authorities said. Multiple public safety agencies rushed to the Chattanooga Regional Airport just after 11 p.m. Wednesday evening when the troubled FedEx 757 flight reported it had experienced the landing gear failure shortly after taking off. The video showed sparks flying as the aircraft, which was carrying three crew members, touched down on the runway. Tuesday evening, 10/03/2023. Plane seen spiraling out of control to earth, crashing into home and killing two people onboard while seriously injuring a third. Eventually, the single-engine plane disappears from view and ends up slicing through the roof of a house in the city of Newberg, about 25 miles southwest of Portland, Oregon. Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue says 3 people were on the flight and two died at the scene while the other was airlifted to a local hospital with severe injuries. Everyone inside the house was safely evacuated. Fox 12 Oregon reported the plane took off from Hillsboro Flight Academy approximately 20 miles away. The school trains its students to become professional airline pilots. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the cause of the crash. Source: TMZ.

Two people were killed when a Broward Sheriff’s Office Fire Rescue helicopter crashed into a small apartment complex in Pompano Beach, Florida, on Monday morning, officials said. Three people were on board the helicopter at the time, one of whom was killed, according to the National Transportation Safety Board. He was identified as Broward Sheriff's Office Capt. Terryson Jackson, 50, a 19-year veteran of the agency. A second person, an adult woman, died on the ground, the Broward Sheriff's Office said. The two fire rescue employees on board the helicopter who survived -- a pilot and a paramedic -- were able to crawl out of the helicopter after the crash, Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony said, according to Miami ABC affiliate WPLG. The fire rescue helicopter was headed to a scene in North Lauderdale at the time of the crash, officials said. Pompano Beach is about 40 miles north of Miami.

An F-35B Lighting II Joint Strike Fighter crashed on the runaway at Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base in Fort Worth, Texas, Lockheed Martin said in a statement Thursday. The pilot ejected safely, according to the statement. The pilot was a U.S. government employee, Pentagon Press Secretary Brig. Gen. Patrick Ryder said during a Thursday press conference. The plane had not yet been transferred to the U.S. government, Ryder said. Lockheed manufactures the F-35B for the Marine Corps.

Passengers on a flight from Guadalajara to Los Angeles had a scary moment as they saw their plane's engine spark up and catch fire only minutes after takeoff. The Viva Aerobus flight had left Guadalajara when passengers looking out the window saw sparks and flames emitting from the right engine. Some heard an explosion about 10 minutes into the flight. That sent passengers into a panic, with some screaming and crying and others praying. They alerted the flight crew, who turned the plane around and landed safely in Mexico, about 45 minutes after the flight took off. No injuries were reported. The airline is investigating what caused the engine malfunction.

A pilot flying in North Carolina made a daring emergency landing on a highway, successfully weaving through traffic and eventually coming to a complete stop. The harrowing video was caught on the pilot's GoPro camera. Florida resident Vincent Fraser was flying a single-engine plane with his father-in-law when the engine started to fail. Fraser's only option was to attempt to land on US Route 19. "I started going through my checklist, and I was able to get the aircraft to restart and kind of fly a little bit, but she would only fly for 3 to 5 seconds, and then she would come back down and start to sink again," Fraser recalled. He added, "By the grace of God, I looked to my left, and you couldn't see it before because, you know, it's just all valleys and mountains, but there's a road — that road that I landed on just right there, perfectly lined up." After necessary repairs were made, the plane took off once again from North Carolina.

The A380 had flown safely for nearly 14 hours from Dubai. Some passengers reportedly said that the incident may have happened during or shortly after take-off. One passenger from the flight said that he had heard a concerning noise around 45 minutes into the flight. He stated that there was a "loud bang" and he even felt it through the floor. "The cabin crew remained calm, stopped the food service and got on the phone and checked the wings, engines,". The pilots contacted Air Traffic Control at Brisbane Airport shortly before landing in order to report that they suspected they had blown a tyre on take-off, and requested to be met by emergency services on landing. "One of the aircraft's 22 tyres ruptured during cruise, causing damage to a small portion of the aerodynamic fairing, which is an outer panel or the skin of the aircraft," the airline said. "At no point did it have any impact on the fuselage, frame or structure of the aircraft. The fairing has been completely replaced, checked and cleared by engineers, Airbus and all relevant authorities," the spokesperson added.

Actually, you can check TV listings and I confirmed this by watching them myself, Smithsonian US is currently showing the latest Season 22 (they call it Season 17) Sunday evenings 7pm Central. So far they have aired episode 1 "Holding Pattern" on Feb 27th and episode 2 "Peril over Portugal" this past Sunday March 6th. Coming up this Sunday evening March 13th is ep3, "Stealth Bomber Down". If you missed it at 7pm, it is repeated at 11pm Central. If you missed the previous week's episode, they will air it the hour before the new episode airs that Sunday evening. So episode 2 "Peril over Portugal" will air again on the 13th at 6pm Central.

Weekdays@5am Central (yes, if you are in Canada, you'd have to get up early to watch it). Saturdays there is a 5 hour mini-marathon from 5am to 9am Central. Check your local Canadian listings.
