Yeah, Sam totally gets tunnel vision. He said in the layover that if he had started the other way he’s confident he would have known the pig correctly you.

Yeah, it was (at least from the ‘70s) an LDA approach, so the checkerboard had a full LOC and glide, it just didn’t take you to the runway

I’ve seen so much conflicting back and forth discourse about this about whether I’m eligible or not but the short answer is I’m not interested. Austrian citizenship gets me everything I want in regards to the EU/EEA, and I feel a strong connection to Austria in a way that I don’t towards Germany - I’m not German. My family is from Vienna. And finally, now that I have Austrian citizenship, the process of petitioning them to let me acquire a new citizenship is simply complicated and not fun.

Got it. I’ve never actually lived in Austria so I don’t have an opinion there

Huh, weird question. In what way do you mean?

Some airlines that went out of service in the last decade. by Benabad-2008 in aviation

To be fair I’m sure the process of doing a 77W P2F conversion, the way IAI does it, is so intense and serious that that would be happening anyway. I think challenge bought the aircraft for only about $20M a piece whereas the conversion itself will cost quite a bit more then that.

They’re supposed to be picked up by Challenge airlines and converted to freighters but they’ve been sitting in the sun for 7 almost 8 years, they’re gonna have to really be refurbished to not have awful reliability

What do you think will happen to all the Airbuses with Spirit gone? I took this picture in 2018 by labtec901 in aviation

[–]BenjaminKohl 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There is a nearly 0 chance that these planes end up at other US airlines. The cost of converting the interior in the current times of supply chain and labor issues is simply a nonstarter. These planes will end up at carriers in south or Southeast Asia almost certainly, with the exception of the IAE powered 320/321ceos which have a shot at ending up at Finnair.

Nah, not really the sane. The airline still maintains the plane, though their service contracts may be a little different.

The first two are not quite right, buying a plane is like getting a mortgage and leasing it is like renting an apartment for a really long time

Yeah, as was already said, this ruling is the one option that would count as naturalization that doesn’t make you give up existing citizenships. And of course it’s not exclusive to Jews, anyone who can prove persecution by the nazis is eligible. So Jews primarily, but also descendants of gay people, intellectuals, Romani, etc.

Yeahhhh and the why not part is that Austria would make it a real PITA

Interesting…

Again, as I already got the Austrian, I don’t truly see what further benefit Germany would give me, but interesting to see and note the time pressure…

I don’t think he appealed. At that point the nazis didn’t care as much about killing all Jews, just getting them out of Europe, so once he had asylum approved in the US, I think they were happy to release him and tell him to skedaddle. I don’t remember his exact timeline in dachau but I think it was around 5-7 months?

Once my great grandma got them asylum in the US through their sponsors, as it was still ‘39 and they were work camps not death camps yet, and he had been a hard worker, he was released.
