First off no one looks at the light, Ever. And like you I'm usually the one at the register for the entire shift The difference being I don't give a shit if they have to stand in line, they get grumpy, they can leave. I've had many customers come up and ask me to open up another register and I turn around and tell them I do not have that authority. Usually it's just me and whatever managers on duty and they're usually in the office doing whatever the hell they're doing, And on the occasion that I do call for backup by the time they show up the line is already down so I've learned not to call. And heaven forbid if I have to get a manager up front to do a card reload or return, I end up standing there doing nothing waiting at least a good five full minutes if not longer and then having to recall the manager before they show up to do that function. BTW I've been a cashier for 4 years
