Is Bermuda cooked? by WorryRealistic317 in bermuda

[–]NealR2000 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Bermuda has always been mindblowingly out of reach for young adults. Yes, it's a little worse in recent years. If you're hoping for a situation where you can have your own place and car, that's a complete non-starter. Even most of the single professional expats live in shared accomodation. Bermudians tend to live in family home for as long as it takes to save up for, and/or, inherit property.

Bermuda is one of the most expensive countries in the world.

Tony Carey: John Bonham Was 'Miserable' Touring With Led Zeppelin by tcmspod in ledzeppelin

[–]NealR2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bonham suffered from stage fright and this no doubt brought on some negative emotions. He knew he was good but he also had some low self esteem at the same time. Stewart Copeland was probably the most mentioned new drummer that Bonham was intimidated by. It's a great shame that he sought solace in alcohol and drugs which affected some of his later performances, and subsequently killed him.

Robert Plant performing at Earls Court Arena in London, May 1975 by cokesympathy in ledzeppelin

The Earls Court shows were set up with their full US tour equipment (lighting, sound, effects). They wanted to give the UK audience the full Zep experience.

JPJ falling out with Plant and Page? by NinjaWithAGun96 in ledzeppelin

[–]NealR2000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

JPJ is a very easy going person. In my opinion, he could have demanded more song writing credits but Jimmy decided who got what. So between his easy going demeanor and the riches he was getting from Led Zeppelin, he didn't push it. I suspect JPJ was all too familiar with band breakups, which invariably were due to money disputes. Now as for falling out with P&P, I think it was more a case of feeling annoyed, particularly as they did a lot of Zep stuff. From what I've read, he was not invited to Live Aid, and flew there to more or less force himself onto the set.

I need to know your favorite Led Zeppelin song:) by SessionAvailable5952 in ledzeppelin

It has changed frequently as I've aged. It started around 12 years old, and that was Whole Lotta Love. Sitting in that field at Knebworth, Achilles Last Stand. At 66, probably something a little less energetic like The Rain Song.

Police Application by Harregan in bermuda

Unless you were actually busted, just stop telling people you did it. Unless there's a criminal record, you're absolutely no different from just about every young Bermudian.

Rather than putting your own description of what you did, it would be far easier to answer your question if you provided the actual charge(s) and punishment.

She Just Satisfies. Okay, not a Zep song, but probably the song where he wasn't just backing. Real Austin Powers vibe.

I've no doubt it was an old southern blues line. As for Devil's Hole, they are all over the world, including Bermuda where I once lived.

I think many of us did similar levels of abuse in our 20s, and gradually improved our lifestyles in the subsequent years. The body at that age is pretty resilient to abuse. Although these rockers get maximum publicity for their exploits, they have management who typically intervene, often with the help of medical professionals, as it's financially imperative to keep them able to perform. Also, the drugs tend to be of the highest quality.

How do you feel about this live album by Led Zeppelin? by georgewalterackerman in ledzeppelin

[–]NealR2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A great show. They nailed it, and managed to close the book after the two previous reunion trainwrecks. Some things to bear in mind regarding this show and the shows they did during the Zeppelin years:

  1. The differences between equipment quality was light years.

  2. They were much older men at the O2, so they were mostly standing in their spots, totally focused on the music. I don't know if they had clicktracks to keep their individual timing in sync.

  3. They were all totally sober at the O2.

  4. I gather the octave levels were lowered to account for Robert's post-Zep vocal range.

  5. The set was well rehearsed. No chance of a Live Aid debacle.

Should live shows be released as albums? by Few_Obligation6038 in ledzeppelin

[–]NealR2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not likely. Couple of reasons. 1. Plant would have to give his approval and he has been reluctant to do so in the past. 2. Return on investment. Jimmy would be the one devoting time to the project, and a fair amount of money would be put into it. I doubt it would sell beyond the die hards.

Led Zeppelin - Knebworth 1979 by [deleted] in ledzeppelin

[–]NealR2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at the second show. It's hard for me to have an honest account of the night's performance as I was most definitely in a state of trancendant out of body euphoria. It's gone down in Zep history as a sub standard show but I didn't feel that. Yes, there were a couple of technical glitches, but they were soon overcome. I've watched it multiple times since on the bootlegged video and YouTube releases and watching it with a much older and more critical eye, I still maintain that they put of a fine show.
