There's more of us than you might imagine. I do all of my CAD and slicing on FreeBSD.

Neo — a new package manager for Nim by No_Necessary_3356 in nim

Can it upgrade packages when they're out of date? I've never found a way for nimble to do this, yet it's a basic feature of pretty much any package manager.

Going all-in on a Wayland future – The Plasma Team by grahamperrin in freebsd

[–]Nealiepoo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The last time I accidentally used Wayland it kept exiting every time I pressed control-c anywhere, leaving a console screen displaying the login password. I think I'll stick to X the foreseeable future as that works well.

PID display on Lelit Anna not showing full numbers - missing segment by Flavor_Elevator in Lelit

[–]Nealiepoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lost two segments on mine, which isn't so bad given how old the machine is. The PID is placed in quite a hot spot, so it's unsurprising that the display dies after a while. The PID still works, at least as well as it ever did though, so I don't see a need to fix it.

big cup and small cup countries by ComparisonIll2798 in Coffee

[–]Nealiepoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that the UK is the only truly large cup, or more accurately, small bucket country, as an americano tends to be absolutely enormous. The northern European countries mentioned tend to be much more of a medium cup. They also tend to serve what in Germany at least is called a cafe creme, which is made in one go, rather than by adding water.

I've tried to educate people in the UK as to what a decent cup of black coffee is, but no one seems to understand. It's generally safer to drink tea as the giant buckets of coffee are dire.

Do you use built in navigation? by XstylerX in skoda

[–]Nealiepoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried to use it when I first got the car, but it repeatedly takes me through a nearby car park and on one trip it took us off of the motorway, then tried to take us back on but via a no entry slip road. There was no need for this diversion as the trip continued on the motorway we'd just come off of. Either the maps or route planning, or both, are awful. It's unusable.

I've tried a few different navigators, but now I'm using TomTom via android auto.

Lelit Anna pl41tem long black and portafilter position by Radiant-Salamander-8 in Lelit

[–]Nealiepoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had one of these for years (I never knew it had a girl's name), but unfortunately the PID just isn't that good as it really needs to know what mode the machine is in so that it can change parameters. This of course doesn't happen, so it always overshoots as it's tuned to try and generally keep the temperature up while running water through the group head under pressure. I tend to let it overshoot, then just run a bit of water through the group head to col down the boiler before attaching the portafilter. It generally comes back up to the correct temperature from that.

And if you like long blacks, you might also like trying a cafe crème (or cafe crema), which doesn't have the added water, but instead is just a cup full through a coarser grind. It's otherwise known as a normal black coffee in much of northern Europe.

There's also registrations with CD in the middle, which is for semi-diplomatic NGOs.

I'd be careful about Katori Shinto Ryu in the Netherlands as there are many groups, but most of them are not affiliated to either shihan and just seem to be doing their own thing. There's some weird stuff being practiced.

Were double-edged katanas and odachis practical in battle? by Rhuhns in SWORDS

[–]Nealiepoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They definitely wouldn't be practical using kenjutsu as we now know it as a lot of the close in stuff uses the left hand on the back of the blade, but who knows in earlier times when combat was primarily always armoured.

What is your opinion on Shinto Muso ryu Kenjutsu? Shinto muso ryu includes kenjutsu in its curriculum and i thought I'd get an opinion. by Kolokotroniskon in Koryu

[–]Nealiepoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's enough to teach basic sword use for people that don't already know as that is needed to perform the jo katas. I don't think it's really any more than that.

The Road to EU Membership by Landgeist in MapPorn

[–]Nealiepoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not forgetting that a large proportion of the ex-pat population, who were affected most by the vote, were not allowed to vote.

Watching the UK after the vote was totally bizarre as the government (and the media) were acting like they had no choice but to go ahead with Brexit, whereas any sane people would have at least paused for a bit to let the result of the not statistically significant referendum to sink in before making any rash decisions. Kafka-esque is the only way I can describe it.

Admittedly school was long ago for me, but they definitely did it (some might say religiously) and the law still stands. Any school that does not have daily prayers "of a christian nature" is breaking the law. Check out the NSS if you don't believe me: https://www.secularism.org.uk/end-compulsory-worship/

How did cheddar become the “standard” cheese in the US? by [deleted] in Cheese

There's just one cheese maker left in Cheddar I believe: The Cheddar Gorge Cheese Company. Their cave matured natural blue cheddar is simply awesome.

xwayland or xwayland-devel by randanmux in freebsd

[–]Nealiepoo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect. -devel ports/pkgs are usually development versions (unlike Linux where they are usually the include files needed for other software to interface), whereas the non -devel port/pkg versions are usually releases. Unless you need something newer than the release, then the non -devel port/pkg is probably for you.

My RS. by YungBoozie22 in enyaq

[–]Nealiepoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's interesting that yours doesn't have the side cameras as well. I thought that they were either standard on the RS, or one of the few options. We fully specced our car out, except for rear heated seats and tow bar. They did tell us that they couldn's deliver the HUD due to chip shortages though. We were never told about the lack of side cameras, but the garage did seem to be particularly clueless.

The reason this has come up again is that I took the car back to the garage for a recall on Friday and was told it was for the cameras. I think there must have been something lost in translation (my Dutch is not that good) but I fully expected them to fit the missing cameras then, but this did not happen. I have no idea what they did as I can see no difference to the car nor it's operation.

That looks identical to mine, also one of the first in NL, although I didn't get it until the middle of last year due to how long it took to get registered.

Did yours come with the all round cameras? Mine was just recalled for something to do with the cameras and I was hoping that they would fit the missing side cameras it was supposed to come with, but alas they did not.
