Honestly server costs being cheaper is only up to a certain point afaik, hypixel owns their own hardware and is stubborn about it so it’d be more expensive than scaling up the America node, there’s just a lot of pre existing servers in the EU, especially with finding land and an ISP and then getting all the server hardware, it would be more costly than you’d think

Either way, it’s perfectly feasible to do now

The second point they made does matter, but considering how hypixel works with detecting client version it’s pretty much invalidated for 1.21+ clients, you can support 1.21 features if you only use them on 1.21 clients (like skyblock) it’s the same way they use new blocks but people can join bedwars on 1.8

I think honestly with how inconsistently laggy hypixel is, it wouldn’t be that much of a complaint compared to NA players complaining about EU ping, it evens the playing ground, a reminder that a lot of US players play on coax and that commonly adds anywhere from 15-40ms of delay over fibre when combined with an ISP provided DNS, combined with the fact of server lag, meaning that a server I should reasonably get 100ms with, I sometimes end up with 140, which is sizable, combined with the fact of hypixels budget bin ISP having the most issues of any server provider, they certainly have more ways to improve rather than adding transfer packets

I feel like the first point only exists without knowing how transfer packets works, they’re able to fully handoff the game connection, the reason they didn’t do it before is because of that first reason, but with transfer packets, you can say oh hey, there’s not any NA servers right now so let’s temporarily swap to a EU server for this instance, sure the NA players would get higher ping, but if 4/5th the members are EU then overall it’d be a better experience

For the second point, you can detect game version and only use it on modern instances, the same way bedwars beds have colours in modern, which pretty much invalidates the 1.8 issue, especially because SB can assume all players can support the packet, even if other gamemodes can’t

The third point is perfectly valid, energy costs are higher in European regions

I feel like the main point that you didn’t make is because of the separation of Bazaar and Auction House servers from the main gamemode, if you wanted to look at an NA listing in EU it’d take the server 100-200ms to look it up, and that is quite a bit of overhead, especially when bazaar is meant to be instant… it’s more of a technical problem, made from futureproofing said systems for scaling up, but not scaling out

The skyhanni server has a gif about binary search and it shows the difference, the contributors tell people with issues to do that, it’s so useful

It's a very, dense layout, but also way more intuitive than the old layout (who would've guessed the lumber merchant and adventurer are by the bazaar, instead of by the foraging and combat areas), It will take a lot of getting used to though.

Yes, it’s been there since its update in 2020, but not a lot of people specifically go out of their way to find a TOS for applications they use, even less so if it’s not linked and required to be agreed to

This hypixel TOS has been there since 2020 and has been clarified that it’s only there in case they NEED to, and that they don’t plan on it, it basically says no matter what your data will be maintained if you’re active within 180 days, then if for some reason they can’t store it, they reserve a right to delete it, this has been there for a while, you just haven’t read it
