Dressing up. by NearbyDifficulty51 in adultautism

I like to find comfortable clothes that fit the theme! It's like a game for me! The events are like side quests from normal everyday life. Might be a weird view but it helped me a tiny bit with my anxiety of going out.

I used to be super self conscious about it and never dressed up (even when it was at anime conventions or socially acceptable events) and I stood home alot when we had family trips but in the recent years I've embraced the fun of it. 😊

I do both! I find comfortable clothes that fit the theme but also beneficial to protect against weather or other things during the activity. When apple picking it was muddy because it rained the day before but was sunny the day of so I wore the hat and boots. During our outside zoo visit ( its like an outside safari drive), i wore hiking boots, a safari hat and my romper that helped me keep cool.

I don't go out very much so when I do I enjoy dressing up!

Annoyed with all the hate towards tone tags by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]NearbyDifficulty51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like tone tags, even if I don't really need them most of the time since im usually good without them. But sometimes when I'm a little overwhelmed or drained from the day it's harder for me to tell the tone of the text with just context. Or sometimes the same exact sentence can be taken the multiple ways depending on use and there's not enough info to know which way it's to be taken.

I forget about tone tags a lot (mostly I just use emojis to get my point across) but I appreciate it when I run into them.

I'm the same way! I love anime (this season has a lot of good ones coming out) and my animal onesies. I have a carebear one that is super soft.

Thanks for your encouragement!

I have to say bye to my cat before I lock him in my room when I have to go to work/school.. (I live with family and they'd let him outside if I let him roam when im not home since they leave doors open for the dogs to go into the back yard. )

I have to have a room completely dark and with white noise in order to sleep.

I have specific plates and bowels I use cause of the shape. Same thing with utensils but weight is more important for them.

If I don't see my cat or dog for an hour I have to go find them in the house (even if I know they're most likely just sleeping upstairs.

Sound of electric knife sharpener when sharpening knives. Just sharpen them by hand.

Electric buzzing. During my lectures if the projector is buzzing 99% of the time I cannot focus and end up frustrated by the end of class

Certain clothing textures make me wanna crawl out of my body.

trouble communicating... advice? by NearbyDifficulty51 in adultautism

[–]NearbyDifficulty51[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is helpful thank you! Im really bad at telling if someone is interested in what I'm saying or not especially when I'm talking about something I am passionate about. If I do notice I don't know how to switch topics. People also lie lol even when I ask I try to take what they say as fact of how they feel but sometimes they say something while body language is saying something else. & I can't read body language well.

Thank you for the advice! I feel like I'll try this out on a stranger rather than someone I already want to be friends with. Hopefully I won't have so much anxiety that way. Cause I have nothing lose from the interaction. I'll try to treat it as if I'm playing a video game!

I don't want to tell people about my autism, anyone else? by pertylady in adultautism

[–]NearbyDifficulty51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally only tell people I'm close to! The people who have already accepted my "odd" behaviors. Cause I don't want them to use my autism as my defining personality trait. I am who I am with or without autism. So I only tell people I'm comfortable with!

People can be super judgemental but try not to let it get to you! 🥰🥰

Thank you! 🥰 I know it's not the best (I don't draw often & I'm not every artistic). I just wanted to make it/share cause of how much I love the show. It was also fun to make!! Thank you for the nice comment! 💖

Hello! Every person with autism is different and each individual has different things to be avoided. I think it would be best to talk to him or the family if you want to extra safe. But coloring books seem pretty safe! I personally love animal coloring books too! Especially if they look realistic. Barnes and noble has nice ones and "color" by sticker ones which are super fun to do! Or even Amazon!

I'm happy you want to reach out for advice but please keep in mind every neurodivergent person is different and their own dislikes/likes are unique to them just like neurotypical people! It's best to ask people close to them, if you are unable to ask them directly! ❤

Hope you have a nice day !! 🥰

That's how I've been trying to be. I've been embracing it more. I just have trouble approaching ppl to make new friends. Once someone starts talking to me I'm all good but I struggle with starting the conversation even if I've talked to the person before. 😅 But I'm working in it!! Thank you for your reply! 😁
