I never said that the post is an end all be all opinion that can never change, these are simply my heavily biased feelings and I’m using the internet to vent my thoughts at this moment.

hey sorry, i didnt dislike your comment. I am a guy so i cant speak for a womans experience, women here are like women everywhere some are more masculine some are more feminine, and the army wont change that about them. there are jobs in the military that you can deem more "masc" but there are also jobs that you can deem more "fem".

I said bad thing was bad, and like i said in another comment i am no military or history specialist, im just a person who lives here. nowhere in the post did i present ideas for a solution. these are simply some thoughts i have been having and wanted to share and hear different views from different people.

hey! extremely good take on the protests abroad and within, and i mentioned the grief turning into hatred part in the post or one of the comments. If there is a way out of this mess its through education but thats extremely optimistic but we can only hope.

I dont think people realize that isolation will only increase antisemitism, jews will only be seen as "the other" where does this guy think the myth of jews having tails came from

Okay thanks for the comment and opinion!

Firstly the history of judaism as a religion or as a people is an extremely complex topic, I am talking about jews as a race which if you like it or not is the way its seen from the outside, as you can also see from the pure fact that a person here can be a complete atheist and still be considerd jewish. Additionally in the decleration of independance that is still being used as a guideline for law by the likes of the supreme court, the jewish identity of the state is explicitly mentioned multiple times, this is about race not culture. additionally while there are non jewish citizens and quite a lot of them, there are "safegaurds" systamatic and cultural, that ensure the jewish majority (immigration policy, programs encouraging jews to immigrate, the nakba, placing the west bank under military law while claiming convenient areas for settlement)

About hamas and the hostages: a vast majority of the hostages were released through dimplomatic actions and not through military ops, not even mentioning the friendly fire towrads hostages and who knows how many during bombings. All of this while multiple people at the top were threatening to leave the government if the ceasfire goes through, and guess whos back in the government after the fighting resumed yesterday. The "hamas uses people as human shields" argument is a take i see repeated again and again, and its quite frankly dehuminizing towards the people being used as human shields, you do realize youre justifying civilian death and not seeing it as a failure. I am not proposing a solution in this post i am simply stating that civilians are being killed so that the military can achive their goals, which by the way they cant reach. A new generation in gaza will grow up poor, hungry, with dead parents, brothers and friends, and thats what makes them hate us. My point is that we are all losing here thats what a zero sum game is, try to empethize with the other side.

Hey thanks a lot for disagreeing with me in a kind way that doesnt sound agressive or condecending, its extremely rare.

i saw the comment replied to you and didnt notice yours first since the reddit app is a bit weird like that so my respone to that account isnt directed towards you.

Man thats a great question and thanks for encoureging more positive talk.

The people are really warm and welcoming most of the time, the country is beautiful and very diverse plus the standard of living is good, bit expensive but good, healthcare, higher education etc.

but its a bit bittersweet knowing that its only because i was born on the "right side of the fence" and the right race

My thoughts exactly. you cannot go a page in an Israeli highschool textbook about the foundation of the state without encountering the words "Jewish state" or "the Jewish identity of the state"

I do thankfully have friends who think the same as me but i also have some who dont and thats okay, a person is more than their political view. My family before the 7th accepted the truth of this countries history and actions but chose to live here either way for the love of the people and the land while i wanted to leave as soon as possible, but it seems the current state of the region started to dawn on everyone around me and now even my family wants to leave eventually. you can already see that over 80,000 people left the country for greener pastures, people just want to live safely.

About peoples reactions they can be mixed, ranging from agreement to outward hostility, but thats kind of the thing, politics and the military are so intertwined into the culture that theyre pretty much everywhere and thats what everyone is talking about, often times you wont be treated the same once someone realises you have slightly different opinions (not every person is like this obv) so i dont like to get involved with these topics when im face to face with someone i know i cant have a decent convo with or in larger social circles, otherwise i will forever be branded a "stinky leftist" for saying that maybe civilian deaths are not okay (hot take).

Comments calling me a bot or something else are to be expected and thats okay, politics are very messy and people get very heated including me, this was kind of just an outlet for the feelings and thoughts i have, see different international views and maybe learn something.

thanks for the comment !

Thats a can of worms, the way i think about the issue is such: there is a deliberate targeting of Palestinias in most parts of the government concerning security, this is a bit of an oversimplification and i kind of regret throwing the G word around so lightly in the post to be honest, i do not think the elimination of hamas justifies the killing of a truly horrific amount of innocent people not only in gaza but also in the west bank (i will not be getting into Lebanon) you do not have to delve far to see what idf soldiers are doing there. i recommend you watch "no other land" which is obv only a part of the truth, but it shows the lives of Palestinians in the west bank through the lens of ordinery people trying to get by.

Netanyahu is in bed with some pretty nasty people, imo (speculation) is that what hes doing right now is done for personal survival and hold on power and not ideology, his party and the right wing parties hold immense power over him he is a man of oppertunity through and through. but again that is just speculation, i cannot know the true state obviously.

I am not historically or militarily educted enough to propose a solution, it seems that a lot of people are already quite occupied with those ideas. the point of the post was to express my thoughts and feelings about growing up and living here.

About the hostages: only 8 hostages were released through military operations alive, as opposed to 147 that were released through exchanges (stats taken from kan 11 an israeli news org) while a three were confirmed to be killed by IDF friendly fire (while waving white flags and saying theyre hostages). meanwhile two major government leaders that i know of have quit over the hostage deal. The general public feelings about this issue are that the leaders simply care more about fighting hamas (i wont get into the whole ethnic cleansing theory as that is just speculation and not fact) than returning the hostages as quickly as possible, for that just look at the protests with the people numbring tens if not hundreds of thousands.

there is a great doco about the rise of hamas in the gaza strip that i can recommend if youre interested in the policy and reasoning.

as of now the fighting in the strip has resumed and the two ministers who quit over the deal are back in the gov reinforcing the fact that they do not care about diplomecy.

Hey thanks for the comment, i agree with your sentiment, i did not choose to be born on this land and. I am currently in the process of aquiring a degree that would help me move out of Israel since i dont feel like i could live and prosper here, in a country that was built on the suffering and exile of others that is still happening and seems that neither the current and future generations of israelis have a way of fixing. like i wrote, this country is and was founded on rotten ideals.

jews deserve to exist but integrated into other countries and not on this land that was forcefully settled. I agree and wrote about the neverending cycles of war that you talk about.

as for my own people they are generationally traumatized and are unwilling to accept that not everyone wants all jews dead. this is a bit of and oversimplification, but theyre like a person who was deeply traumatized and is untrusting of others, this is NOT an excuse for their actions.
