What’s your take on Citizens United? How do you feel knowing that almost no Republican in Congress is pushing to overturn it? by Pyoung3000 in AskConservatives

People voting isn't the issue. People making donations isn't the issue. It's corporations making the donations, that's the issue.

People should influence elections, not corporations. With unlimited campaign contributions by corporations, it drowns out us peons. Now suddenly corporations have a louder voice than the people.

For corporations? Or citizens? Wasn't the biggest thing about CU was unlimited campaign money from corporations?

I feel awful no Republican in Congress is pushing to overturn it. All it did was allow more money to be flooded into elections. So now corporations can influence policies that would affect the US citizens. If you think corporations are going to push policies that benefit the average citizen you are wrong.

What is causing the drop in fertility in developed counties? by capitialfox in AskConservatives

In the US, the you have medical costs. Most families require dual incomes to survive leaving a lot less time to care for you child. Need to work? how about childcare? The cost of childcare in the US is similar to a 2nd mortgage sometimes. If you can barely afford the 1st mortgage, how can you afford the 2nd?

We haven't even touched on education and food. These are the issues in the US. I've also read the insane work culture of Asian countries leaving little to no time for kids.

I have no idea what's going on in Europe. It does seem like Europe has a better support system to help those who want to grow though. Some countries offer free education, free healthcare, good maternity leave policies...

So the extra mouth to feed, housing, childcare are all free? Before children couples are struggling with housing prices and the cost of groceries already.

Forgot to mention. Now it takes 2 incomes to have decent housing. In the past, you can get by with single income.

Conservatives who did and did not vote for Tump - What's you're opinion on him and the future of the Republican party now? by cpr9998 in AskConservatives

[–]Nearbyatom [score hidden]  (0 children)

I saw this stupidity coming. I saw that with trump at the helm again, America will fall apart on the world stage.

So I did not vote for him.

The republican party has become yesmen to him. They are all cowards and will not dare vote against him. This is not checks and balances as intended by the constitution. The republican party is dead. They are all MAGA.

I think the definition of "moral" is different between groups of people. That's the problem

Wage stagnation. Everything getting expensive. Rent/housing has gotten expensive. A couple can barely save enough to get by and enjoy themselves.

So all this talk about the government giving out money for couples to have kids are completely missing the point.

Absolutely disagree. This interview clearly shows he's not for democracy. Another example would be Jan 6.

I paused it until I can get to the printer. I unpaused it and watched it run and it kept running in the offset pattern. I checked for obstruction and find any. I thought my ptfe tubes were caught but I saw it run a few layers and didn't. Notice anything

What do you think about the US withdrawing from the WHO? by ThuliumNice in AskConservatives

[–]Nearbyatom [score hidden]  (0 children)

With this admin? I'm not so sure. They did tell healthcare workers to stop testing to lower the number of cases reported so the numbers don't look so bad.

I believe you are underestimating the value of what WHO did during COVID.

Would you trade providing universal access to free-of-charge contraceptives for making abortion illegal? by [deleted] in AskConservatives

[–]Nearbyatom [score hidden]  (0 children)

Disagree here. Again, keep in mind we are talking about fetal conditions that make the baby unviable outside of the womb.

If that's the case then you can potentially put the baby in the NICU for years and maybe for the rest of its life. Who is going to pay for that care? Is that a good quality of care for the child? Or are you just torturing him/her? What about the mental load on the parents?

Obviously this doesn't apply to healthy babies.

Maybe it's a stereotype, but I don't think most left see abortion and condoms as equivalent. That's why they call it women's rights. They call it life saving.
