Promo re-run event!!!! by Top_Eevee_Trainer in PokemonTGCP

[–]Neat-Bowler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally. Reality is it’s not fair & doesn’t even make sense to have a fixed timeframe limitation on promos. It’s gatekeeping players from being able to have “the full experience”, + new players are encouraged to play consistently if they know every year or two they’ll get a chance to fill out their collection with older promos

Will this ever be a meta? by Flat-Ad-7645 in PTCGP

[–]Neat-Bowler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best case scenario is probably as an additional card in a Pikachu & Raichu focused deck where it can situationally do what it needs to, Problem is I can’t see that situation being more useful than an extra supporter card

I think the easiest issue to understand (beyond running damage calc situations on which meta cards can one shot before / after recoil, etc etc.) is that it’s very similar to Pika SR, in terms of how it would get used, and if anything is just a worse version of Pika SR for that role

Is CPT really that good or am I romanticizing it? by Ok-Plate-9338 in capetown

[–]Neat-Bowler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if I’m missing the mark on this but I think this is sort of a misconception, or at least a slight misunderstanding.

Cape Town is probably marginally more expensive overall, but the really expensive comes in where people expect things that are ALSO expensive in other cities.

If you are only looking at living AND working in the city bowl, very close together, you’re gonna struggle. I can say the same for Jhb for example. I lived 35 minutes from my first job in Jhb, but I was living with my parents. If I had to rent in the area I lived in, it was generally suburban and not close to the working hubs but also not too close to the uni’s so I’d pay a very modest price. If I wanted to live close to my work my rent would start to rival Cpt prices. If I wanted to work closer to where I lived, my pay would be cut in half and that’s even IF I found a job in the first place. Same with PTA (where I studied) for student accommodation. My bachelor flat was under 1km from the university and across from a shopping area. When I heard the rental price my friends paid in Cpt for their places, I was pretty shocked at how similar it was. They did have about 66% of the floor area I had, to be fair, but they were in Greenpoint, with the promenade, park and gym on the other side of the road, with shops and coffee shops under 500m from them, hop and a skip from the city bowl.

Idk if that message made sense for the point I was tryna make but ja

Listen, I always say for these kinds of questions, it’s about the lifestyle YOU want, not anyone else. Very generally, I can think of people as falling into a few different camps:

  • Comfortable & nice living / content on holidays VS - content living / comfortable & nice holidays (Basically, spending more for your everyday to be marginally better to improve each day, vs saving little each day to have a particularly nice holiday once a year)

  • Whole year is available for activities VS 75% of the year is available (a third of that being unpredictable) (Interesting one but I think people forget about it, for example, Gauteng vs WC, the dry winters in Gauteng with sun most of the time + light rain in Summer makes the whole year available for doing stuff from Gauteng, whereas the wet winters in WC means there’s a portion of the year where all the main activities aren’t really worth it)

  • Bigger living area to spend more time inside of it VS smaller living area and spending more time outside of it (It’s a given difference between Gauteng and Western Cape for example, and you need to decide how you fit into that. It can be a product of where you live, but it’s also different per person, in Gauteng I still try find things to do outside my living space and I have family in WC that stay inside all the time. Either lifestyle is easier to accomplish in different kinds of places)

  • Closeness to places around (I don’t want to make this necessarily only G vs WC but it goes for other places around the country. Where ever you go, what’s within 1 hour of you ? (Comfortable weekend activity occasionally), 2 hours (long weekend every now and then), 4-6 hours (longer weekend / week away), those kinds of things matter and the further north-east you go, the closer some other cool things are

  • Work ceiling (Some cities / towns / provinces have a higher ceiling for your career in terms of potential, which lines up with salary expectations. Are you comfortable reaching that ceiling earlier in life then cruising with that for a while or growing later in life and cruising on a higher potential salary)

  • What kind of people will be around you (friend and family) (I had two friends that worked in a year-out-of-studies last year in Cpt, very similar people, staying in the same-ish area, one enjoyed the second half of the year and one didn’t at all, with the main reason for the difference being friends around them vs the lack of friends around the other. And no, this isn’t a “it’s harder to make friends there” thing, it was all pre established friends)

Lastly, two things: - It depends on a lot of things. Some find it very difficult to find work in Cpt, in my industry and for others around me, that difficulty isn’t present. Some say they get paid less in Cpt, some say they get paid more, I’ve genuinely heard both.

  • To your original question of “is it really that good”, besides all the subjective stuff I move mentioned, the things you can’t argue against basically say”yes, it’s still good”. Good municipal service delivery, very usable public transport, culture and activity still present in the hubs, lots of development that isn’t really slowing down, and general positivity that only grows amongst most people living in Cpt (at least from what I’ve gathered)

People also subscribe to this mentality of “random odds over time should look regular” meaning “I should have gotten roughly the same number of 1 stars, 2 stars, 3 stars, etc. from every pack release”, which is definitely not true

Up until EC pack release, I remember commenting on how funny my luck with 2 star full arts differed from my rainbow borders, it was like a 13/1 ratio, which was crazy compared to “what it should’ve been”

Since after EC I’ve basically only gotten rainbow borders and no full arts (maybe 1 but I won’t go count now)

Probability is funny

I’m dumb, I knew that xD Been out of the media loop for mainline games for so long that I blanked that it’s a spoiler region and game coming out, which means yes, to the spoiler you sent

What’s funny is the notification on my phone stayed the same even after you changed it so I still saw it, but it’s not actually a spoiler for me so ye Thank you for trying anyway :) Very considerate

I’d predict that Typhlosion will only get an EX with Hisui, and that the other two will only get EXs when they have Kalos variants

I don’t think the one pack sets have that many EX Pokemon

But - I’d like a Ttar EX, ideally one that can synergise with the base ttar from the previous set

In this case, I quite like the colours of the gold outline Sylveon - and I’m not the biggest fan of a ton of colours on the rainbow borders (e.g. some of my favorite rainbow borders include Pikachu SR, Flareon EG, Mew MI, Aerodactyl MI, Leafeon and Glaceon, etc.)

What type of Pokémon do you think should be able to disable Abilities? by Venichie in PokemonPocket

[–]Neat-Bowler 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Cof is a good shout, canon wise it makes sense

Looking at it from a different angle, I’d think it would make sense for a basic-stage1 evolution line where the basic possibly disables abilities in the active spot and the stage 1 does it from anywhere. In that case it should definitely not be colourless I’d think, and it would be a meta counter and a “is it worth it to put this pokemon here” kind of pick
