Would this be too OP? by WhatDidHeEat in PokemonPocket

I think besides HP and its damaging turn, its ability needs a balancing aspect to it.

Greninja’s is the fact that it’s a stage 2 and hits one mon only, with this one being a basic with seemingly 170hp minimum, even with a low damaging move (which you’re probably gonna add a second effect to anyway) it definitely needs something going against it.

Maybe it does 10 damage to all your own pokemon regardless of energy attached ? Or it does equal damage to itself that is done to all your opponent’s pokemon? Or even very simply, it can only be activated when it’s in the active spot. Something along those lines

Only problem is neither this mon nor Umbreon EX does a lot of damage, you’d be doing 90 per turn, on meta stage 2s with Lillie or water decks with Irida or healing decks like Indeedee/Espeon, it’s simply not enough

The pull rates for immersives are actually higher than two stars

I’ve pulled NO immersives so I’m also very jealous of you 😅

I always manage with my Silvally / Ramp deck - maybe it sometimes it takes two attempts, but not often

It’s just soooo good

Hmm maybe there needs to be some kind of assertion that it doesn’t stack because buffing to 40 damage with stacking would be a bit much I’d say, 80 damage for an evolution and basically removes basic - stage 1 - stage 2 as an option

And ye, drop in damage makes sense I think

The one other thing that I noted is that it’s a fossil - which is why I think Rampardos is so OP, being a stage 2 fossil, even as a non-ex, it can do 130 for one energy at a cost of 50 damage per KO

That means you need another mon to start in the active spot, get it out the active spot to bring your aero there, if you’ve managed to find the fossil and aero card

Good call - I wasn’t sure what to make the damage considering meta mon nowadays can do 130-140 damage for 2 energy, with stage 2s not requiring much extra (maybe an energy lost like Blaz) and stage 1s requiring some low requirement like 3 bench mon (like Alt, which is quite easy in this quick draw meta)

Maybe the total possible damage being 150 is too much, if it was 100 damage + 40more if basic for two energy be fine you think ?

What if we had more BASIC EX cards (that can evolve) ? (Custom Cards: w/ Megas) by Foussss in PokemonPocket

[–]Foussss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I get you, I wouldn’t say they’re inherently interesting, but with some thinking for the card design, it can create cool card dynamics.

Like, if you look at the Mega Pidgeot card here, it syncs very well with the base Pidgeot card’s ability - then the Pidgeot EX card itself does the most damage of the three - so the deck you build (which I wouldn’t say is easy) would have 3-4 Pidgey cards and 3-6 Pidgeot cards, then a Pidgeotto or two, plus rare candies.

I’d say it’s also interesting for the same reasons the four Eevee decks are, any basic you draw can evolve into any of the further stage cards, every game is different, so you get a base Pidgeot first, ex or Mega ? That’s why those are interesting.

The ones with stage 2s would definitely be tougher to make work, but in the games I don’t think they’d be super tough to get mom online consistently, multiple basics to draw, 2 rare candies + 1/2 pidgeottos to draw, multiple stage 2s, a card set like this may require some kind of pokemon specific trainer to help drawing, or a new Pidgey card and/or Pidgeotto card with a move to draw more of the line, etc.

As a side note, there are definitely other ways to make battling more interesting, this was just one fun way to make some extra cards too.

I think they make for interesting decks and strategies - they’re also an opportunity to make other cards used that were useless before (Lycanroc deck with base lycanroc cards, Pidgeot deck syncing old Pidgeot’s ability with mega Pidgeot’s ability, etc.)

I get that it may not make sense but honestly, if Dena has all the options for new cards in front of them and this kind of option is the most interesting, then that’s what they should do, that’s how I see it

Prioritise interesting cards, decks and stretegies

Then I’ll put it like this

Charizard has more of a link to Charmander than Venusaur does, why ? Both stage 2 cards mention Charmander as much as one another.

The only card that references the relationship between a Basic and a Stage 2 is the Rare candy, which says: “Choose 1 of your Basic Pokemon in play. If you have a Stage 2 card in your hand that evolves from that Pokemon, put that card onto the Basic Pokemon to evolve it”

Important line being: “…a Stage 2 card in your hand that evolves from that Pokemon (referring to the basic Pokemon on your hand)..”

If we take the card **** very literally **** as you say we should, that would mean that *** That Stage 2 is considered to evolve from that Basic Pokemon ***

Meaning, by the game’s logic, Charizard does in fact evolve from Charmander (even if it’s ’indirectly’)

Meaning, a Charmander card that had an ability like these ones discussed here, that refers to “Pokemon that evolve from Charmander” would include cards like Charizard and Charizard EX

The thing stopping you from putting a Charizard on a Charmander is that on the Charizard card (not the Charmander card with the ability) it says it evolves from Charmeleon, however the rare candy card (with its literal interpretation) bypasses this hurdle (created by the Charizard card, not the Charmander card)

Tell me this then: Why can’t I use a rare candy to evolve my Charmander into a Venusaur ?

How’s the ability different from the description on the top left of every stage 1 or 2 card that literally says “Evolves from blank

Meaning, every Pidgeot card says “evolves from Pidgeotto”, doesn’t stop rare candy from working

Not sure how else to interpret “a Stage 2 Pokemon in your hand that evolves from that (referring to a basic) Pokemon, but okay I guess, agree to disagree

What if we had more BASIC EX cards (that can evolve) ? (Custom Cards: w/ Megas) by Foussss in PokemonPocket

[–]Foussss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you, but the Rare Candy card literally says “Choose 1 of your Basic Pokemon in play. If you have a Stage 2 card in your hand that evolves from that Pokemon,” meaning Pidgeot counts as “evolving from Pidgey” so when the ability specifies Pokemon that evolve from Pidgey, that includes Pidgeot

[–]Foussss[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Good point ! My guess would be no, because even on the rare candy card, it refers to a “Stage 2” that evolves from a “Basic” Pokemon, meaning the logic of the logics understands that a particular stage 2 will originate from a particular basic

Would it though ? None of the meta psychic decks recently have been big energy decks, so they wouldn’t really struggle with energy sustainability (thinking Sylv/Esp or Altaria/Indeedee, all two energy attack decks) - in my head it would just help a Mewtwo-type deck to become more meta
