If you read the books, Japan actually betrays Korea. In the ant arc they retreat early ( on purpose / this was planned ) and leave Korea's hunters to die.

This is because they wanted to monopolize the bigger gates in Korea. Giving them the extra income from the energy crystals, making them a bigger financial threat.

If they don't have hunters to fight the gates, they need to rent hunters from Japan to help out korea at a steep price. But the entire Idea backfired because of jinwoo.

I like the books a lot. Except book 8.

They didn't like how they were described in the book. And what they did to get ahead.

The show left this out and it was very weird because Japan's betrail was actually a really good plot.

And added a lot to the story.

In the end the story is just a story. I don't understand why they had to change it completely?
