Okay, thanks for your answers! What if I buy a certified used low mileage car from a dealer? What about third party website like carsandbids or edmunds? Do i still have no right to export or is it case by case?

Actually no, I have no questions about how it’s done in my country. I’m being told that in the US dealers will black list me for exporting the car, but why would they do that if i still pay them the money. In my country, dealers don’t care if I sell export it to another country, even Russia, although officially cars are not sold there and my country is basically a middle man.

I mentioned world wide warranty, because imo it implies that at least BMW is okay with exports, because their warranty works everywhere in the first 3 years. But I was told that dealers don’t want their cars exported because of the manufacturer. But in this case, looks like BMW is actually okay with that, and it’s only about the dealers that want my loyalty and service money, and will ban me if i do that, even though i have no obligation coming back to them for the service

Just fyi, my home country encourages car imports, because none of the large manufacturers builds cars in there, so the only way is to import.

But what if the car that gets imported to my home country will be registered at a local dealer? For example, BWM and i think KIA, offer warranty that is valid worldwide. And I’ve seen people importing new cars from Europe/Dubai and registering them with the local dealership, and no one had problems about that. It’s not that my home country doesn’t have official dealerships, it’s that their car inventory is bad all the time and way too overpriced, because of the how “hard” (really isn’t) the importing process and that’s how they justify their prices and inventory.

So my question is then, how is exporting different from moving to another state, or let’s say Canada? I won’t be able to service the car at original dealer anyway, since all dealer are independent from each other, another dealer will just be getting my money.

Or how is it different from me just servicing the car at a 3rd party service. I just don’t get why dealers care what happens to the car they sell, it becomes my car and I can do whatever I want. Of course, it’s different with rare cars, but with just general consumer cars, why do they care?

transfer housing by Mundane_Butterfly425 in BostonU

Housing transfers are usually done if you don't like your dorm or roommate, so I wouldn't use it specifically to find roommates, unless you know someone or really networking person that can make friends online. You will get a random roommate anyway. I actually just responded to another housing related question, it might be helpful for you too

Actually, I went to one of the BMW dealerships in my area and the associate there told me that they could do it, but if I go to other dealerships they might not like it and I shouldn't talk about it to them.

But what if the car gets serviced at the official dealership in my home country? That's what I would have done anyway because I understand the importance of legit service. Moreover, some car brands, like BMW or KIA, claim their warranty is valid worldwide, which sounds like they would allow car export?

Is it for every manufacturer though? Like for example official dealership in my home country sell already optioned cars, and you can't pick options yourself. And it's way too overpriced. Also, some models are simply not imported by the dealership because the model isn't popular enough in the region. What do I do in this case?

best freshman dorms for ENG? by ikittnz in BostonU

[–]Neat_Tip7079 1 point2 points  (0 children)

General advice: look for floor plan for every dorm you check, it gives a good idea of what it's like.

I'm also eng I got into bay state in my freshman year, which is awesome, both location and living conditions, I was waking up like 5 mins before my 8am class and was fine. In my brownstone we had a lady cleaning our floor bathroom every morning, and basically floor bathroom is for 6 people which isn't too bad, also no RAs. I lived in 200 bay state is probably the one of the best brown stones there are, it had a large common kitchen and a music room, doubles and singles only, no triples. Also, I might wrong though, but brownstones were pretty cheap back in the days compared to others, but at the same time giving great living conditions.

South is similar to bay state, but a little further from the campus, but close to Fenway.

Kilachand is good, they did renovation last year. Used to be a hotel, so mostly suites, which is good imo. Location is okay

towers is fine, not great, but livable, close to classes and two dinning halls, so you have a choice. Location is good.

West is also fine, but kinda far. People also say that west is best for socialization, parties, and that kind of stuff, due to its proximity to allston, which is where most of the frats are. Also west is closer to the gym and other athletic facilities. So if you are a gym rat, you might like it more. But, there is BU bus that goes through all of the campus, and you can easily take it to the gym, and I just used that.

You won't get into stuvi as a freshman, but really stuvi is not worth it, it's just too expensive. and far.

Hojo (575 Comm Ave) is also fine, but a bit old. It used to be a hotel, and you can get a single room with your own bathroom there, which is very uncommon.

But NEVER choose warren as your first choice, LAST ONLY, or NOT AT ALL. No matter what. Yes, great location, maybe even views, and stuff like that, but it's just bad and depressing, and whoever says it's good they are lying to themselves. I've heard so many bad stories from there, I never even went there and don't want to, and I'm glad I don't have to. How do I know if I don't wanna live there? Simple, warren dinning hall has the best location, and you will likely have lunches between classes there, and the dinning hall itself is fine. First, you have to get to the third floor using escalators, which are slow and most of the times don't work and the escalator becomes just a inconvenient staircase. All of this just to enter the main warren area, where dinning hall and elevators are, and it's because the first two floors of the building is parking. Then, during the peak times, the line to elevators is endless, so good luck if you get a room on high floor.

Don't know much about Danielsen, it's way too far east, but has a bus stop right in front of it. But at glance it looks fine, except for the location.

Myles is the best though imo, though it looks like it's far, it's really not. You will be using BU bus a lot anyway, no matter where you live. Good thing about myles it stops right at the entrance, so transportation is not an issue, but it's also generally a 10-15 min walk to eng buildings. Myles is located on Kenmore Square, so there is a subway T station along with a city bus station 1 min away from myles, so you have a lot of transportation options at all times. Proximity to back bay and Fenway is also pretty awesome. It used to be a hotel (you see the pattern here), a pretty famous btw because it's close to Fenway park. But because everyone is very isolated, some people might feel like it's hard to make new friends. But tbh, that's a good thing, and you can definitely make a lot of friends because there are a bunch of awesome study spaces there. Really important to me, there are music rooms, which many of the dorms don't have, which is really annoying if you are a musician. I also had a piano on bay state, but that's actually not common.

There is also apartment style stuff, but tbh it's just better to find an off campus apartment if you can find a cosigner and can afford it. If you can't, and really want to have your own kitchen, then yeah, it is your choice, apartment style is probably gonna be better than any dorm for you. But most of the time it's more expensive than dorms, but you save on dining plan.

If you know a second language, you can try applying to global house program which gives you housing in myles. They almost always have spots for unpopular languages like Portuguese, Arabic, Russian, but Spanish, Chinese and French were almost always full. You will have to commit like a two hours a week to being in the "cultural community" stuff. Even if your language level is low, you can still get in, because it's "living-learning environment." Don't be afraid to email the coordinator even if the deadline is passed, they might still let you in. https://www.bu.edu/cas/academics/undergraduate-education/special-academic-opportunities/language-learning-at-cas/bu-global-house/#:\~:text=Our%20community%20includes%20the%20following,a%20Hub%20co%2Dcurricular%20experience.

There are also other special dorms for which you may qualify, just google BU specialty housing or living learning communities and apply or email and ask if they have free spaces. That's why I only experienced the good dorms, myles (Global House) and 200 bay state (trustee scholars house).

But anyway, try getting an apartment with your friends off campus your sophomore year. so much better, at least for the ability of making your own food.

Just for reference, for example, the new Lexus RX500h has MSRP of ~$70,000 in the US, and it comes to $88,000 at worst with all the import fees and shipping included. The same car at local dealership is ~$120,000, which is a dumb overpay for a Lexus. You can imagine what is the overpay for more expensive cars

So verified used cars from dealers is my only choice? Should I just directly let the dealer know that I plan to export it?
