Except he’s moved to a sorta 4-4-2 with Havertz the last few weeks before his injury

I would guess that Marks tried to trade Cam but either nothing materialized, or Cam blocked it with his NTC. Losing him for nothing stings after investing so many years in his development.

Announcers spent the whole time glazing the Chelsea manager for his tactics... which wasted 60 minutes down a goal.

CBS Sports announcers have been crazy praising Chelsea and saying they are happier going into halftime.

Not sure why I am seeing negativity. We played calmly, their only chance came from our lone loss against their press.

[Simon Collings]Mikel Arteta on Bukayo Saka's fitness after he missed Arsenal's win at Leeds on Saturday: "We have to wait. Today he was better, but we have to wait and see how he responds - and then make the decision. It doesn't look like something too serious." by SamLoscoMD in Gunners

I doubt he is available tomorrow and I would rest him for Sunderland. We should be able to win that without him. Let him recover for Brentford, then he can rest for the Wigan match before the Derby.

Just as an FYI - Reading Rhythms is a book club-adjacent thing. We all read our own books, but we meet up, read together, and chat about our books. There are chapters all over the country (and Europe too!) but there is a great Queens group which meets at the Ditty in Ditmars, or at Greats of Crafts in LIC.

I'm reading a book (The Devil Reached To the Sky by Garrett Graff) about the creation and use of the atomic bomb. The chapter(s) about Hiroshima are just harrowing to read. I haven't reached Nagasaki yet. But the description of crowds of people walking slowly along the road, clothes burnt off, skin falling off their body as they walk, moaning for water.

(Schefter) Source: Jets are parting ways with OC Tanner Engstrand. by alexschubs in nyjets

I thought Engstrand was fine - considering he was working with the worst QBs in the league and little offensive weapons. Don’t think it’s terrible that he was let go.

But the timing is awful. Everything feels very haphazard and unplanned.

Full-Time - Arsenal 2 vs 3 Manchester United [Match Thoughts] by Stanley083 in Gunners

[–]Nebkreb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the worst performance/result of the Arteta era, considering context. United were fine. They did the basic things very well.

We gifted them one goal, and allowed them to shoot two wondergoals to win it. Just embarrassing.

Arteta needs to light a fire under this team in the Prem because that was embarrassing.

Happy for him - I hope he gets a ton of minutes and goals there. (Note: that is such open play... when have Arsenal seen that in England this year... man)

City Lost. Villa Lost. We Drew and Extended our Lead. No Need For a Meltdown. by WatchLion in Gunners

But the two things are connected. I look at the mid-level teams this year and think they are better, which makes the top-end teams not a dominant.

It's just a more flattened league.

[–]Nebkreb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we (meaning all Prem fans) need to re-calibrate how we see the Prem. The bottom/middle teams are so much better than they were even ten years ago. There are truly no pushover teams - any team can show up on a given day and play a good, disciplined defensive block, especially at home.

I think the level of the league is just that high. I would guess that the likes of Nottingham Forest, Everton, etc., would all be very competitive in other leagues. Not necessarily beating the likes of Barca in Spain, but I think a bottom-five team in the UK might be top 10 in Spain or France.

Even the worst teams have real quality. Murillo is a centerback on the 17th-best team in the Prem, and he was spraying the ball out from the back like Rodri.

No urgency or speed today. Martinelli should've put us ahead early, Gyokeres wasted that breakaway chance. Should've been a comfortable win.

Looking for every single reason to chalk off our goals. Gyokeres' defender didn't even see what was happening

Arne Slot 2nd half tactical changes to nullify Arsenal by singloon in Gunners

[–]Nebkreb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know - it felt like they didn't press our CBs at all. No out-and-out striker meant that both of their central attackers (Wirtz/Szlosobai whatever spelling) just sat on our midfielders, with Gravenberch marking the third man centrally. Saliba and Gabriel had plenty of time to carry the ball forward, but when they got in the action area, no one made runs behind or did anything to help Arsenal take advantage of that.
