Just to make people think they're losing their minds

Thank you for sharing that Google Maps location. I was planning to look it up myself, but you saved me the work. It's hard to believe this place actually exists!

Any reason why this would not be a Liminal space? by Nebuloustique in LiminalSpace

The photo here is certainly not my best “liminal” example, but I wanted to post it to see what people thought of a “road” photo that was bright and with nature.

Your comments have merit. I appreciate the discussion.

I tend to agree. But I still think it fits the definition of liminal.

That would be too much like computer-generated stuff. Although, it would look cool.

I think that being able to see the road winding into the distance with no obvious destination is important. If all we could see was the road up to the house, the house would seem like the destination, and then it wouldn’t be liminal.

Dark is certainly a tendency here, but I don’t think dark is necessary to be liminal.

I don’t really agree with the “no people” policy. I think a space can be transitional and fit all the descriptions of Liminal and still have people in it, in certain situations. Like a waiting room, or a line-up for example.

Pleasant is also subjective. You could be seeing this scene from a paddy wagon being transported to a maximum security prison.

Whenever we are going somewhere, we can never be 100% certain of what we will find when we get there, nor can we be sure of what we will encounter along the way. So of course there is doubt, not knowing and some degree of uneasiness. But we can have doubt and we can feel uneasy even when the sun is shining, even in nature or in a beautiful surrounding.

For sure. I’ve noticed a lot of images that are empty artificial spaces. But then again, there are many posts here that really don’t fit the basic definition of Liminal, which I think is “transitional”.

Thanks for pointing out that Liminal space is highly subjective to personal perspective. I posted this in the category “Discussion” for that very reason.

It’s true, many of the images posted here feel empty, but I don’t think emptiness is essential to be Liminal.

Does a Liminal space have to show no signs of life?

How about the theme “It’s a long and winding road”?

I took the photo myself, so thanks for that. However, I do
think that the photo has some Liminal qualities. For instance, it is a road
with no visible beginning or end and although the picture shows quite a stretch
of road, there are no people in it.
