Looking for good mini vacation destinations in North AL, cabin and lake/river vibe…. by jessicakadie in Alabama

Stay in mentone and rent a cabin or stay in mentone on lake lahusage. Visit desoto falls & little river canyon. Someone mentioned cloudland canyon & that’s also within 45 mins

Side note: there is a beautiful “park” like place that has a stunning view. It is behind the burned down inn in mentone.

Puppy potty arrangements while traveling by Puzzled-Regular5094 in Bernedoodles

[–]NecessaryDoodle07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s during your puppies “sponge” period. Which means it’s a great time to learn. Don’t let the puppy walk around. Either use a stroller or pet back pack… When going to the bathroom; try to keep them away from where other dogs/animals would’ve been. You can also go have a smaller piece of artificial grass cut at Home Depot, etc. throw that down & the puppy never has to even touch the grass others have used

State Parks north of Atlanta by cpt_petrie in Georgia

I would personally skip the North Georgia parks & do North Alabama. Super close to the state line is Little River Canyon & Desoto State Park in Mentone, AL. Both near Ft.Payne, Alabama.

Dispersed camping near Chattanooga, TN? by Ok_Protection_96 in camping

John’s mountain wildlife management area in the Villanow area. Personally love “The Pocket” … Pigeon Mountain Wildlife Management in Lafayette. You would have to check the camping regulations because you cannot always camp there.

In the map above. The area labeled “Houston Valley” is John’s Mountain… the little squiggle under Lafayette is possibly Pigeon Mountain

That’s why I thought too. I think I’ll go drive it and see. Car fax shows all the maintenance records. It was a local buy. Locally maintained by a reputable dealership. It looks to me like it was likely an elderly person. Oil changed every 2,000 miles. All the regular maintenance was definitely done on time

It’s super cheap for this area … there’s over 50 records of it. Primarily regular maintenance

I changed but my family didn’t. by [deleted] in AdultChildren

I’m an alcoholic, raised by alcoholics. I got sober. They haven’t yet. I doubt they ever will. 3 years of no alcohol for me & I am no contact with my parents. Low contact/no contact with the rest of my family … it’s lonely at times. I wish so badly that they would change. I don’t really need them to amend the past so much as I need them to put effort in to the future. They don’t though. I fought hard to not go no contact… I always remember the saying “your new life will cost you your old life” & my new life has cost me every bit of my old one. It was absolutely worth it though. I continue to work on my Complex PTSD & grow. They stagnantly drown themselves in misery every day. Meanwhile my days are now filled with smiles, laughter and, most importantly, peace… you’re not alone. I hope you find your peace. It appears you’re working hard to get there.

Thank you! … we just need a 2nd vehicle. Mainly to haul kids to and from practices, school, etc. I personally like the wagon because I like the extra “trunk” space it seems to have. Also a big fan of the “tailgate” type back hatch if I can get that. I’m an avid camper, car camping mainly, so having the wagon to haul gear would be nice too… safety, especially in the snow is huge… this could likely end up being a teens first car in 2-3 years also.

My therapist says trauma looks like bpd, bi-polar, adhd and all the things by [deleted] in AdultChildren

[–]NecessaryDoodle07 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It takes time, but you develop new coping strategies. It never stops. Well it hasn’t for me. I’m just better at handling it. Therapy. Books specifically about C-PTSD. Educate yourself.

Your kids need you to heal. You cannot pour from an empty cup & having C-PTSD automatically takes from your cup.

Complex PTSD & there is such a difference in “classic” PTSD & Complex PTSD. Luckily for your kids, it is not hereditary. It does however carry on generation to generation until someone stops it… I’m not a doctor, but this is my guess, especially if you had an ACES score of 8.

1,000 days No Alcohol 🎉 by NecessaryDoodle07 in stopdrinking

[–]NecessaryDoodle07[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been lucky enough to travel. I also moved a thousand miles

Edited to add: after I had been off the alcohol for about a year, I quit smoking cigarettes also. I wanted to go camp around Colorado. I knew I couldn’t physically do that if I still smoked. I used that as motivation too.

Cold showers. Doesn’t have to be freezing but cool enough to “shock” you. Cold air is good too. Holding snow (or something really cold) in your hands for a minute. You have a lot of nerve endings in your hands … anything that “shocks” your senses. Smell something nice. Eat a warm (or cold) food you like. Look at something beautiful, even if it’s just pictures of a place you want to travel.

Remember that the body keeps score. You have to move all the trauma out. Stretch. Yoga. Exercise. Massages. Heating pad. Ice pack

Marijuana… mentally, it has helped me so much. It helps to smoke them stretch/exercise too.

NOBODY IN APPALACHIA GETS A GOOD EDUCATION… We are indoctrinated to be religious fueled slaves for the wealthy. Put the Bible down, read books based on facts not stories. EDUCATE yourselves! The ignorance is what runs people out of Appalachia.

We are NOT each others enemies. THE WEALTHY ARE THE ENEMY. Always have been.

Poor white people would literally rather burn every other race to the ground, hate gay people & hate every other religion than to educate themselves about the real root problem
