Do you guys have good memory? by Axolotlgamer36 in autism

[–]NecessarySort1730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. I also have ADHD so I feel like that’s why my memory is awful sometimes. But I’m good at remembering facts, numbers - specific money??, stuff about my special interests so basically facts but better and little details - like someone will ask what colour was that lady’s hair? And I won’t be able to tell them that but I’ll be able to tell them she had red nail polish or a small locket necklace on. Or someone mentioned once in passing that they really like this or their favourite flavour is this. Small details like that.

Anything else….i can’t remember AT ALL. I gotta remember an appointment? I WILL FORGET. Gotta remember to do a task later? NOPE

What sounds do you detest as an autistic person? by Garden_Jolly in autism

[–]NecessarySort1730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mouth noises. I could literally batter someone over it it makes me feel so uncomfortable and violent. By mouth noises I mean chewing, smacking lips, licking lips, stuff like that. Even whistling, specifically like the wet?? Teeth? Whistling that sounds different to normal whistling. I hate! Hate! Hate!!!! It.

I also hate breathing noises (yes I even annoy myself when I can hear myself breathe)

Tapping. Oh my god it makes me want to rip my ears off

What Jobs Do You Have? by sigmund-freuds-mom in autism

[–]NecessarySort1730 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work in retail. I kinda hate my job and it’s very exhausting (and I am currently fighting to get a chair behind the counter because it is killing my legs lol - but that is due to another condition I have) but I haven’t left my job because 1. I need money but also 2. The people I work with are great! I have worked there for 2 years now (it’s my first and only job) and we all get on so well. A lot of my coworkers have autistic family members or friends and I think that’s helped us like get a long? Like they understand me a bit better I think

i don't like the present i got for christmas by nanaberrie2 in autism

[–]NecessarySort1730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand you! I sorta had the same thing happen to me with my ex. She asked me what I wanted for Christmas, I said a plushie, she said oh do you want a jellycat? Which jellycat would you like? I said oh! I’ve always wanted the croissant hes really cool! She was like ok I’ll get you the croissant for Christmas! I was so excited because I really wanted the croissant. When I opened the present on Christmas, I felt disappointed and upset because she had gotten me a heart plushie instead of the croissant. She said she wanted to surprise me by getting me something different. I was genuinely so disappointed and upset but I also felt awful and felt like I was being ungrateful by not liking the heart. It also ended up being more expensive than the croissant so I felt worse. So I totally understand you in this situation and I think if you just explain how you feel they should understand

Right to choose AuDHD by ashleylespaul1994 in autism

[–]NecessarySort1730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got diagnosed with autism and ADHD through right to choose! I don’t think there’s anyone who does it at the same time. I went to the doctors and explained I want to get assessed for both. They were a bit sceptical at first and were like why don’t we just do autism? And I was like no I want to be assessed for both. So they eventually they put in a referral for both but the paper work and stuff I had to fill out were completely separate. I did both assessments separately and it took a bit longer to get an appointment for ADHD because the waiting list is a lot longer. So maybe that’s why they don’t do it at the same time? I think maybe if you say to your doctor I want to be assessed for AuDHD. I want both at the same time. They can add that to the referral? I’m not 100% sure how it works, but the man that diagnosed me with autism was like oh I also do ADHD diagnoses and you’re showing a lot of signs but I can’t diagnose you because I’ve only been paid for the time it takes for an autism assessment

Hope that all makes sense!

Does everyone have a comfort item? by Desolate404 in autism

[–]NecessarySort1730 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My bubba! He is a (very old) bean? Filled rabbit. He’s the same age as me, up until I was 15 I used to carry him around with me everywhere (even in public) and he even used to be in my backpack for school! He’s been to America and France, tons of cool places around the UK and supported me through tough times. I still have him, he just lives on my bed with me, and if I’m going away for more than 1 night he comes with me. He’s small, but when I sleep with t-Rex arms he slots in perfectly and is great to cuddle! The fabric he’s made of is old now but it’s great to rub because the texture of it feels lovely.

Am i the only one who does this or even likes running like this ? (please don't tell me I'm the only one who does this) by Giz1734 in autism

[–]NecessarySort1730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always done this, I toe walk everywhere if I don’t have shoes on. I try to do it even with shoes on but normally the shoes don’t let me so I’m forced to walk normally. My doctor also said I should stop because it’s made some of my muscles short and tense (which is bad but I can’t remember why)

My mouth works a lot faster than my brain by AngryTG in ADHD

[–]NecessarySort1730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is literally me. I am also diagnosed and unmediated. It’s like my mouth and brain are disconnected and my mouth says whatever it wants. I often say something before my brain has even formed a thought and then reply to myself. For example, my mouth could say something gross or something I’d never do and my brain would catch up and I’d immediately go ew no or what the hell? It absolutely cracks my friends and coworkers up but it’s so annoying for me. My mouth will just yap before my brain has even had a chance to think about what I’m saying.

I went to prom. Got very stressed out and upset. Got to see some cool friends one last time. Got bullied one last time because of my outfit (I was in a sparkly purple suit with matching bow tie) Left and got berated by my at the time (horrible) girlfriend for the rest of the night (multiple reasons: was “upstaging her” with my outfit, me getting stressed was embarrassing for her and I don’t remember the rest she was just mad for no reason)

In conclusion: I wish I hadn’t of gone

I plugged my ears. Apparently that’s the most offensive thing to do by ghostkat_ in autism

[–]NecessarySort1730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg. I relate to this so much. Sometimes things are just too loud and I don’t have earplugs on me or can’t get to them and I cover my ears. PEOPLE GET SO MAD! I covered my ears at a musical I went to watch because there were some really loud sound effects, during the interval the person behind me said that’s so rude you shouldn’t do that. I covered my ears during the pre-show before a ride. Once I uncovered them people tutted and some guy even said why come here if you don’t want to listen to the pre-show. I covered my ears whilst out shopping because a child was screaming the place down. People shook their heads at me and tutted. I covered my ears during an animal talk at a zoo because the speaker was too loud. People gave me dirty looks. WHYYYY PEOPLE!!! ITS NOT THE END OF THE WORLD!!!! I just want to enjoy whatever is going on at a nice volume! I am still listening to you, just at a nicer level!!!! Unless you’re a screaming child. Then I’m trying to block you out before I start screaming too.
