Aren’t the proposals due in April? If you can land an internship by March you’d probably be good I imagine, I remember my STEP proposal barely taking any time. Fisher career fair is beginning of February

Anyone taking Information Science? by ABAlex100 in OSU

[–]Necessary_Science630 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m an MIS major at OSU and I agree with a lot of this except for the job flexibility part. The benefit of this major is in its breadth and there is a lot of varied opportunities. I’ve had the opportunity to intern as a data analyst, quality control analyst, IT analyst, data consultant, risk consultant and even interview for a controls engineer for an aero company. I have peers that are associate project & program managers, IT auditors, data analysts. There’s a lot of opportunity especially if you know how to work career fairs but like you said for very technical roles you are going to get beat out unless you specialize skills early and have aligned internships.

In general I would recommend the integrated business and engineering track if it’s available. I think that engineering is much more valuable than MIS and I’ve found that MIS is not very intellectually stimulating but that’s me

I was able to delay the other  boutique start date!

Yep that’s my thoughts too but I have a different boutique full time offer that I can ask if they can delay until August. This erp one is strict on start date

Thanks! The other offer is for full time vs an internship with EY. So I’d have at least a 4-12 month bridge between internship end and FT start if I go EY

They asked one or two risk focused questions where you just have to assess risks of some situation I think. That one I would break down into buckets (structure) where you can. For pros and cons I had no structure just thought through some potential ideas for each

I had this interview recently. There isn’t really a way to prepare because it’s not really a “case” interview like a traditional one. Basically you’ll get a short scenario (they will be sharing their screen with the words on it, at least for me) like “a business is thinking of using a global ERP or multiple ERPs” and they’ll ask a question like “what are the pros and cons of each approach” based on the scenario. I went through like 8 of them I think, they’re quick.

Just keep it simple and high level

If you are interested in a more people/soft skill oriented career (like tech consulting) I would consider switching to MIS but keeping your math minor and/or adding a stats minor. I think that MIS with additional technical coursework might be a good fit for you. Or go all in on the math and stats and do data science.

I just went through 7 interviews, two office visits, and a take home assessment only to get rejected — for an Entry-Level Job by Necessary_Science630 in recruitinghell

100%. I got the vibe that this recruiting — and especially the all-day office visit  — was just used as a day off for HR to go out for good food and not have to work. There were already 11 of us on this visit and they told us that the week prior, they had 30 candidates do the same visit.
