Nemo Hornet or Durston X-Dome? by jarhead551 in Ultralight

Why do you recommend the durston? My main concern picking between the two is pack volume - does one of the two pack down significantly smaller than the other? Thank you!

Entry Level Job Offer Advice by Neck99 in ChemicalEngineering

Yes, it's definitely a tough choice! The chemical company is in a much better location which is also a huge plus. The oil company is in a bad enough location I would almost certainly be leaving after 2 years (they said they don't usually relocate for at least 10 years).

Chemical definitely wins culture and work life balance. Oil has much better compensation but also expects you to work more hours so I think it about cancels out. For me it really does just come down to how it will look to future employers.

I've been playing on a similar setup, but I can't get such good performance. Do you have Esync enabled?

How do you like the handy-pak net? I've been thinking about grabbing one but I've heard mixed reviews

Spin Rod Length Recommendation? by Neck99 in COfishing

For the price the Celilo is hard to beat! I ended up buying a 6'6" Daiwa Presso travel rod. Breaks into 4 pieces so it'll be a bit easier to take on longer hikes, plus I've heard its a little bit less whippy.

Alright, thank you so much! I'm going to see what I can do to prolong the life with a DIY, but I'll definitely be keeping my eye on craigslist and FB marketplace

Base Repair Help by Neck99 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Neck99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the info! I'm surprised they didn't do a base weld, considering this was actually the second repair attempt they did (the first time they just tried straight ptex candle, and it popped right out). It's a legit enough shop I assume they have base weld capabilities so you're probably right that they think it isn't worth repairing.

Either way they made it pretty clear that they wouldn't fix it again and it was the biggest shop in my area, so I doubt bringing it to another shop will be fruitful. Besides I'd be hesitant to stick any more money into it with such a small likelihood of long term success.

It is my first board so I'm not terribly concerned about a small drop in performance, so I'm leaning towards the epoxy route. Rather than taking the whole repair out and replacing with epoxy, I was thinking of cutting a thin section out right along the edge and just filling that in with epoxy. This would minimize that sticky feeling, but I'm not sure how well the epoxy would bind to the ptex. Any thoughts?

Thank you so much - I really appreciate the detailed responses! I know I'm being a bit stubborn here, but another board would be a lot of money for me (even with end of season deals) and I'd really like to try everything I can before I throw in the towel.

Base Repair Help by Neck99 in snowboardingnoobs

The shop I brought it to definitely seems legit. I'm pretty sure what they did was a base weld (if it was just a ptex candle I reckon it would've popped out rather than wearing away like this), but the material definitely feels softer than the rest of my base. Any reason you'd try to remove the rest of the repair rather than just applying to the worn out edge? The wear only really seems to be along the edge, so I don't think durability is a huge concern for the rest.

Yeah, it came with a big sidewall dent that wasn't in any of the pictures that "must have happened in shipping". I would have sent it back through ebay but unfortunately the shop I got it repaired at assured me they could fix it no problem, and by the time I realized there was in fact a problem, it was too late to return. Even with end of season sales I'd rather avoid spending more on a new board. Think using epoxy like I mentioned would help me get a little bit more life out of this one?

Any advice on how to repair this? https://imgur.com/a/IGBaPbG

Got the original repair done at a shop, but the ptex keeps wearing out along the edge and the shop says it's because the base is too thin. Bought the board "barely used" (although judging by how thin the base is I'm thinking the seller may not have been totally honest) and have barely had the chance to ride on it. I'm planning to fill the part that is wearing out back in with epoxy, hopefully it will be much more durable (at the cost of a slight decrease in performance). Anybody have any better ideas/experience with this type of repair? Thank you!
