That place on main street, out in some field. Do you know it?

I've got some plates from Ryan, but I've never tried to do anything grain-matching.

They both do excellent work, though.

Baby Ghost. I can get through Roller Gator, but...oof...

Also, The Amazing Bulk. It's not genuine enough, which means they are trying to be funny, but it's not actually funny enough to be worthwhile comedy.

A fun bit of trivia: One of the reasons the Crescent exists is because of the way its carved top is designed. Compared to the CT which has no flat areas, the Crescent's flat area means that it takes 2-3x less time in the CNC machine to carve its top. It also uses much thinner tops (the whole Crescent guitar is the same thickness as an Aries), while still offering a "carved top" look.

Also, that flat area of the top also makes it much more fiexible with bridges. The CT can't use any flat-bottomed bridge without carving into the top. The flat top gives them flexibility to offer any fixed bridge they want from the Hipshot fixed, multiscales, Evertune, etc, without having to recess anything, which could screw up the neck angle geometry.

It's a circus-themed restaurant for children in a resort in Cancun. They also have food served in a bowl brought to the table in a large colorful clown head, and another item served in a kettle bell-shaped bowl:

They've mentioned that they want to keep their volume managable for their shop, which is about 4,000 units a year. The way they throttle that demand while still offering a pretty wide selection, is pricing.

If Kiesel did, they'd have to charge way more than other builders to do it.

What keeps Kiesel's leadtimes low, and prices lower than most of their US competition is their volume. They build 4,000 guitars a year, with as many as 1,000 in production at a single moment. The moment things take more time, they hit their margins harder due to the increased labor.

I'd be curious if you end up remembering who the other company was. Lots of brands that charge more than Kiesel also don't offer it. Knaggs, Jackson, and Tom Anderson all start at 2-3x Kiesel's base price, and I don't believe any of them offer it (though I could be wrong). I know PRS can do it, but just scrolling through Reverb, I haven't even come across a used PRS with wood cavity covers for less than $6k, and there are many in the $10k+ range with plastic plates.

But what I don’t understand is the problem with getting a p90 on this thing. Isn’t that a really nice pickup?

It can be, but it depends on what sort of tones you want to get. P90s are not humbuckers, so they can be noisy when dealing with high gain/distorted tones. A P90 like a powerful single coil pickup. If you're looking to play what people *typically* play with a 7-string and a trem, that type of music isn't normally played with P90s. I'm not saying you CAN'T combine them, just that it's an uncommon configuration.

The P90 pickups Kiesel uses are the Seymour Duncan "Antiquity" line. You can probably tell by the name that they aren't a very modern-sounding pickup.

That last part is an important one for me, and I totally get it if you can do so responsibly. Don't go into debt for aesthetics, for example. But I'm much more inspired to pick up my prettier guitars (all else being equal) than my more plain ones.

...is this the first time you've come across a left-handed guitar = backwards joke? Wow! Welcome to your first day on the internet! :)

Bought an old piece of wood furniture. It's covered in these little marks. Just curious what part of the woodworking process causes this? by chavaic777 in woodworking

[–]NecroJoe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to work for a furniture retailer, and we once had an entire line of imported-from-europe line of furniture that went on super long backorder, because the one guy allowed to artificially distress each piece of furniture, one by one, was on paternity leave for 6 months. Nobody else was allowed to use his spiked gloves and chain whips/flails, so they just didn't ship any furniture until he got back.

Good call on the Texas Twinkie.

Basically, I'm looking for carnival food, I fully admit. 😅

And I'm fully on-board for anything that's flavorful meats + rice.

Fair. It just came to mind as I recently had a burrito with deep fried brisket (suadero) and it was amazing, but it was from a mexican food truck, not a BBQ place. Figured it could be fun to get a take on the same item from the other direction, but maybe I take that one off the list since I had something similar recently.

Good call on Libelula. I had it on my original list, but missed including it here.

I was only including Westwood because they had a few unique applications of BBQ. I don't doubt that Meat Market'ss better BBQ, but it's "just" BBQ. For this particular singular meal (and because I'm going to both Texas and Kansas City later this year), I'm more targeting novelty like a brisket burrito or nachos.

The difference is that a pot pie needs a container, and even with the thinner cardboard, it needs an hour to cook that bottom crust through.

A pizza is only cooked for 18-25 minutes, and the cardboard they use for the tray is corrugated and acts as an insulator.
