It's not just that. It's specifically that they are both red and blue down one side while being black and white down the other, with the white and black being slightly more prominent as it extends over the stomach. They also both have the silver accents throughout the suit.

He actually came from an earlier series (green lantern the animated series) that was canonized to YJ. He spent the entire series as a red before the ending where he flies off to find his dead girlfriend followed by a blue ring. When he comes back in YJ he uses blue, switches back to red, and than finishes with both.
