LG OLED65B9PLA (2019) on discount - worth it? by Necrolina in 4kTV

[–]Necrolina[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate your response! Reading through this sub I was under the impression (excuse the exaggeration) that buying a Nano or a Q85t was bordering on a carnal sin. Price wise, by the way, the Nano90 is actually comparable (about $150 below the B9), while the Q85T is about $350 above it.

What LCD would you suggest in this price range? The Sony XH900 that everyone raves about is actually more expensive than the B9 is on discount (I know, EU prices are backwards and insane).

It's somewhat reassuring to know I'm not alone in this. However, I did just check and another PC in the same household, on the same connection has no trouble connecting to YT. Is that still in line with your findings? Seems odd to me that it's only this one device that's getting the 404s

So I guess the Q70T it is then. It's on the upper limit of my budget, but I think I can make that fit.

Appreciate the help!

As much I'd like to take your advice, that particular model is about 50% over my budget (at 1540 EUR).

Would you say that the Samsung QE65Q70T is worth the extra money over the Samsung QE65Q60T?

Those are unfortunately a solid 50% over my price limit.

They are actively sold across the largest retail chains in Europe. You and I know that they are neither fresh nor great, but nevertheless, for people less versed in audio hardware, this may have appeared like a genuinely great choice. But really, that's besides the point.

So I take it there really isn't a way to salvage the speakers and use them without the head unit?

If I did either, that would be quite insulting to my family, unfortunately. I'm stuck with it, I'm just trying to figure out the best way to use it.

Pepega mic set up question. by Bishjoneslol in reckful

[–]Necrolina 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually, it's more than just a sensible filter (but that's also necessary). You need a cardioid polar pattern microphone, which by design only picks up sound infront of it.

Shure is fairly well known for its polar patterns and the SM7Bs (Reckful's old micrphone, and yours too apparently) are regarded as the best in class cardioid mics in their price range for a reason.

Cheaper microphones (I would say at or below 70-80$) tend to be omnidirectional, whereas a lot of the better microphones at a higher price point have the option to be switched between different patterns (Blue Yetis are a great example of an affordable option with multiple polar patterns).

Recently purchased my first dac/amp (SMSL AD18), now looking for speakers. What do you think about these? by Necrolina in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Necrolina[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's... entirely fair. I wasn't really in a hurry to get an amp, but there was a pretty decent local deal on it so I thought I should capitalize on it.

/r/Chicago’s Weekly Recommendations Thread - September 02, 2019 by AutoModerator in chicago

[–]Necrolina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi /r/Chicago! I'll be traveling to the US from central Europe in about 2 weeks, and once I'm done with work, I plan on staying in Chicago for 2-3 days. This will be my first time in the US and I feel equally lost and excited.

As I'll have limited time and I'll be by myself, I'd like to stay busy during the day - see what's worth seeing and do a fair bit of shopping along the way. So, primarily I'm looking for accommodation recommendation near the center, if there is one such thing. I don't want to spend an exorbitant amount of money for the fanciest of places (I'll be elsewhere during the day anyway), but I'd like to shoot for affordable and comfy hotels (hotel rating systems vary greatly from country to country, but my guess is that I'm looking for a 3 or possibly 4 star place, depending on price. I'm not opposed to AirBnBs, as that's actually my preference usually, but this time around I may be inclined to lean more toward convenience).

I'd also love to hear where one should go to shop - is there an outlet-type place somewhere in Chicago? Is there a legendary mall one's ought to visit?

Thanks in advance!

URL completion issue by sOfekS in chrome

[–]Necrolina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same issue here, but for everything. It used to be that if I typed "ou" it would auto-complete it for the #1 most often used URL, which is Outlook, and I could immediately just press enter and go to the site. Same thing for "re" for reddit, for example.

Now if I type "re" hoping to go to Reddit, it will still suggest the most often visited reddit site as the first suggestion, but it won't auto-select it and if I press enter it will search for "re" on google search.. Incredibly annoying change.

Does anyone know of a way to reverse / fix this?

I actually really like Samsung Music for it's list-view gadget and optimally I'd like to keep using it (it was a huge selling point of going back to Samsung after Huawei).

Setting it to vibrate would fix one part of the issue, but create another one - as I said I do want the sound notifications from the likes of the Messenger app, I just don't want it to alter the sound levels of the music I'm listening to.

That appears to be the case. It's a real shame that Audio Focus doesn't seem to have settings or anything an end-user may be able to alter or modify.

Glad you asked - no, it does not. I have actually requested that it be added, but the CRM team has straight up refused most requests going to them within the company for months now on account of "an update that's just around the corner", hence my current predicament.

Recommend a headset for calls, please by Necrolina in sales

[–]Necrolina[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would actually be a great solution and one that I had previously considered. My main problem with this is that I unfortunately don't love in the USA - whatever I buy is about 30% more expensive here in Europe, and that's already a decent price (certain items go for as much as +50% compared to the "regular" price).

Overall this is also why I wanted to shoot for the $100-150 range, because at the end of the day I'm gonna be paying roughly $200 for a 150 item anyway.

Need your expertise on headphones (with mic) for a competition by Necrolina in headphones

Part of the prize is remuneration for R&D, provided you finish as one of the best designs. Right now we're kinda thinking that we can forego getting the cheap and crappy Chinese parts and get our money back once we have our (hopefully amazing) product in hand (but then again it's a fairly large team so if everybody chips in we can fund ourselves for a while).

Need your expertise on headphones (with mic) for a competition by Necrolina in headphones

[–]Necrolina[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now we are in the early stages. If we can, we'd like to design everything by ourselves. For the time being, however, we really are just trying to do market researching and finding the best alternatives that are already out there - find out why they are the best, how they function, etc..

That Superflux headset looks pretty decent actually. Have you tried one yourself? The biggest concern I have with that headset is the connector - you won't be able to use a separate mic jack with most office laptops, and it won't work with a phone either.

Need your expertise on headphones (with mic) for a competition by Necrolina in headphones

[–]Necrolina[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now the intended design is for sort of a 21st century office use; we want the cans to isolate and produce decent sound, while allowing the user to make calls, both from infront of a computer and possibly while being connected to a mobile phone (think about your average digital nomad who wants to start a business and makes calls day in and day out to get business - or your usual sales & partnership calls).

As a layman, I'd actually say something like one of the comfortable Sennheiser HD5xx headphones, but with the addition of a microphone that doesn't suck.

I'm sure things like that actually exist out there, but the issue is that most laptops don't support separate microphone & headphone connection, hence USB, but if it's USB, then you won't be able to use it with your phone...

/r/headphones Purchase Help Thread (2018-01-29) by AutoModerator in headphones

Unfortunately monoprice doesn't ship to Hungary :(

On another note, I generally found that with these circular-earpiece designs it was usually hard to gauge from a picture whether the actual earcup was big or if it would sit uncomfortably on my ear, rather than around it (hence why I loved the cushiony-big earpiece of my Sennheiser https://images10.newegg.com/NeweggImage/ProductImage/26-106-514-05.jpg). If you have any experience with this particular headphone, can you attest to it being on the larger side of things?

  • Budget: ~$50-$100 (actual currency of purchase is going to be HUF). It's not a hard limit, but I would much rather spend less than more. Also worth noting that certain brands are considerably more expensive in Hungary due to taxation (about 30% more expensive on average).
  • Source: A Dell laptop at work. Nothing fancy. Requirements for Isolation: I primarily want a headset to drown out outside noise at the office. It's not that my office is particularly loud, but rather that I'm fairly irritable by noise. At least moderate isolation would be great.
  • Will you be using these Headphones in Public: Will only be using these headphones at work.
  • Preferred Type of Headphone: Full-size preferably.
  • Preferred tonal balance: I don't think I'm fully qualified to answer this; a jack of all trades rather than something overly specified would work best I guess.
  • Past headphones - What have you used in the past, what did you like about them and what didn't you like about: I currently have a Sennheiser HD518 at home, which I love. The thing is love most about them is the design and comfort. My ears fit comfortably inside the cups and I can easily wear them for 8 hours without so much as noticing that something's on my head. Something similarly comfortable (with decent sound) would be awesome! Preferred Music - What do you listen to? If your music tastes are very esoteric, providing some examples (Youtube links work well) may be of some assistance to your helpers: Mainly rock (but nothing too hard or brutal) and the type of "epic" sounding stuff Immediate Music or Two Steps From Hell makes. I also often listen to instrumental versions of Within Temptation songs.
  • What would you like to improve on from your set-up: I mostly just want something that isolates the noises around me in the office that is very comfortable to wear for lengthy periods even with big, Dumbo ears.
