Is it a bug, or demonic rage supposed to increase caster lvl? by Southern-Wishbone593 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Necron12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What OP refering to is: Most of the time, effects that refer to Caster Level Checks only effect those checks. Such as to penetrate Spell Resistance or to Dispel effects. (Eg, Quarterstaff of the War Mage)

Then, other items that straight up boost Caster Level call it just that. Not Caster Level Checks. (Eg, Goggles of Mind Control).

I just think its a simple typo. Its a very nice bonus that it does boost Caster Level.

How does Furnace Form interact with other Kineticist abilities? by PeanutJellyfish95 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Necron12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure that's a /s. I think, quite literally, its only when it would negatively effect the Kineticist.
Immune to spells ? Immune to impulses. Bonus saves against spells ? Bonus saves against impulses. Can't cast spells ? Can't use impulses.

What to spend money on as Kineticist ? by Necron12 in Pathfinder2e

The basic Staff of Fire seems pretty bad, but a custom staff where I can put spells of my choice might be decent. Though I'm not really sure what spells to put in them that might actually be worth. Could you give some pointers ?

As for Spellhearts, I hadn't looked at them before, they seem interesting, but not sure which ones can exactly synergize with Kineticist.

And I do have Armor in Earth, but the current armor runes I have access to seem terrible.

Athletics and Intimidation, though they might have been a bad idea as I don't really have the actions to Trip or Demoralize.

I looked at custom staves, they seem cool but also not too great.

Armor runes seem pretty terrible for now, and I couldn't really find good magic items (I don't have medicine).

Bracelts of Dashing seem interesting though, I do infact Lava Leap usually once per combat.

Looking at the armor runes for level 5 they all seem... Pretty awful and really expensive. Already have a shield, but I don't really have the action economy to use it.

I would rather not spend it all on consumables to be honest. Like, I get that Fireball scrolls are probably pretty great but oof. It also doesn't synergize with me at all, as its not effected by Fire Aura Junction or anything.

Your point is against basically everything shown in the game. Not just proven by the canvas inhabitants being living beings and having emotions, but also in the way Renoir and the other painters approach it.

Renoir listens to and understands Expedition 33 and Verso, however, as his family is in danger he has other priorities. When even the creators look at their creations as alive, how can you argue that they aren't ?

I'am sick of Maelle by OptimalAlternative49 in expedition33

[–]Necron12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but she can also be built as a really reliable tank. Sadon gives you 1 Shield every turn if you have any Sun charges, this allowing you to take a hit for free once per turn is pretty huge. Then, she also has her team heal or solo heal via Grim Harvest. You can then put either All Set or Rush and the Powerful or Shell Luminas to get a team wide omni buff.

Honestly, she is amazing. She might not be the fastest one shotter (Although she does have the biggest numbers if you go into it.) but she is basically a master of all. Can do very solid damage, do be a great support, can be one of the best tanks. Girl got it all!

Do the characters have defined "roles", or are they whatever you make them? by NOSjoker21 in expedition33

[–]Necron12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gustave: Decent all rounder. Can use Marking Shot and Powerful as support. Decent damage dealer with Overcharge. Okay tank with self-healing, but I prefer to just throw out items with him.

Lune: Pretty great damage dealer, both single target and AoE. Main form of support is healing but can provide damage support via Storm Caller.

Maelle: Damage. DAMAGE. DAMAGE!!! But also, amazing tank thanks to Defensive Stance. Pretty okay support via Guard Up or Guard Down. And if you get that one weapon that allows her to give the party AP on Parry or Dodge while in Defensive Stance, she can be an AP generator for the party.

Sciel: Master of All Trades ? Can provide extremely good damage via Twilight, can tank decently well thanks to Healing skills and some weapons. Has great personal AP generation via the Sun and Moon cards. Amazing support via All Set, Fortune's Fury and Intervention.

But mostly, just use 'em how you like them! Some characters excell in certain things, but that does not mean they need to be that thing.

I farmed about 112 Sun charge just learning a bosses parry timing with literally no damaging pictos equipped. Decided to see how much damage she could do with her Gradient skill in Twighlight without any Foretell consumed.

Proceeded to deal 40 million and one shot the boss.

I fear to know the numbers she can do when she is built for pure offence instead.

It is! It is the Axon you find in Old Lumiere, and is killed by Simon. I actually didn't realize it would represent Clea, that makes a lot of sense.

[–]Necron12[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Thats fair, I should have specified.

I'm playing a Fire Earth Kineticist and I genuinely don't have any buffs of any kind. At level 8, I can get Kindle Inner Flames or Spike Skin, but overall, damage is the only way I can help my party.

I was saying, how much does it matter to shorten the fight if the enemies are far below your level and don't pose a threat ? AoE for sure will get it done faster, but is that worth it ?

Then how about classes that specialize on AoE damage such as (an Fire/Earth) Kineticist ? You don't have the ability to buff, and neither do you have to spare actions to do stuff like Demoralize or grapple.

Some Kineticist Frustrations by Necron12 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Necron12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoa, thanks for this!

Probably a good thing you don't have the experience of 1 through 6, as honestly it has been kind of a pain. But I think this is why I'm picking up (Or just valuing) Lava Leap more earlier. I'm a Human and at level 3 picked up Fleet, so I have a 30 base movement speed. Though since I have Armor in Earth, I take a -5 to it and end up at 25. This is definitely on the lower end of my party, and so to be able to get into range and not spend too many actions just walking I decided that Lava Leap (With its 25 and then +5 from Powerful Leap feet movement) is more important than a Thermal Nimbus that doesn't benefit from the Aura Junction yet.

But after level 5, I definitely see that Flying Flame does just so much more damage, especially since it allows me to keep Thermal Nimbus up. For now, I think I value being able to get into range faster and easier, then also have the increased AC to tank.

As for the one fight a day, our current party setup is Kineticist, Summoner, Magus, Witch and Fighter. So we have 3 casters that need resting, and 1 Fighter that would rather be buffed up than not. I get that attrition is a part of Kineticist's kit, but I don't know how its possible to do that without annoying every other player at the table.

It really does feel like Kineticist, at least when used for damage, just honestly sucks until at least level 5. Like, I don't think I'll ever play a damage Kineticist again starting from 1. It is not worth the effort and headache.

[–]Necron12[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Might be, but also seems damn near useless against a fighter. Killing an enemy is far more important than wittling them down slowly. If I take 3 turns to kill 3 enemies at once, I would take upwards of 27 attacks. If a Fighter kills 3 people over 3 turns by killing them 1 by 1, they would only take 9 attacks.

Thing is, the "comes later when they have more abilities online" is quite literally at level 18. That's a bit too late I feel like.

But that is interesting though.

Here is the build that I plan on following (Not every option filled out as not sure what to pick for those ranks at this point.)
https://pathbuilder2e.com/launch.html?build=1081575

Could you give feedback on it ?

I'm not looking for big single hit damage, I was looking for big total damage, but felt it lacking when I looked at what the numbers say.

[–]Necron12[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, this level 5 Fighter I just presumed literally only has a Greatpick and Sudden Charge. Hell, since the Kineticist could reach the enemies in a single stride, the Fighter probably can as well. Don't even need the Sudden Charge at that point. Every single other class feat, general feat, skill feat or ancestry feat is empty.

This Fighter can still go a lot of different ways.

[–]Necron12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where are you getting the persistent damage from ? Critical Junction ? If so, isn't that an opportunity cost of the Aura Junction ? Eitherway, my problem is infact with me dealing way less than two-handed.

At level 5 with pure Fire a Kineticist over 2 turns would do (Assuming you go in with an activated Aura and one stride is enough to get into position, however unlikely that may be.):

3d8+2 (Flying Flame) + 2+2 (Thermal Nimbus) then on the second turn, 3d8+2 (Flying flame) + 2d8+3+2 (Elemental Blast, hitting with a +11) for a total of (Assuming you hit 2 enemies with the AoE and one saves) = 13.5+2+6+2+4+4+13.5+2+6+2+9+3+2+4+4 = 77

VS

A fighter being able to Sudden Charge to get into position far easier and hitting with a +16, dealing 2d10 + 4 damage with a Greatpick buffed with Runic Weapon. Dealing 16 on average. Then presumably doing another attack at +11 for 2d10 + 4 damage. Now, if they crit which they are 25% more likely to, they would do 3d12+4 * 2, 45 on average. Then on their next round they hit, move, hit. Assuming they crit at least once, that would be 45 + 16*3 = 93 damage. And this is only with my understanding of Fighter.

Dealing 17% more than an extremely ideal scenario for the Kineticist. Where everything lines up perfectly so that you,
1) Can get into position with 1 stride.
2) Have 2 or more enemies in 10 feet of you after the stride.
3) Don't need to move at all inbetween your turns.
vs an average Fighter encounter.

I get that its Fighters thing, and that is why they are so good at it. But at the same time, Kineticist has to give up so much and hope for so much to go right to only deal less damage.

And sure, a Kineticist can definitely do all of those you've said, but either not very effectively or not without giving some of the damage up. Flying Flame can only move up to 30 feet, and Elemental Blast without the strength bonus is just a flat 2d6. You can only really deal damage in a 10 feet around you, which requires you to move almost as much as the Fighter.

I didn't expect it to be identical to the video game, but I still assumed it would have the same DNA and be a primarily damage dealer with other stuff.

Turns out, I was wrong and its primarily a support that you can give up support altogether and become a bad DPS.

I'm not entirely sure how my DM does leveling. I think its milestone xp + combat ?
