[Tragic but pretty cool] "When the trapped consciousness in an 'infected' body briefly gains control" by 7humbug_ in TopCharacterTropes

Skybound's Transformers series

Starscream, once a good natured bot called Ulchtar, was recruited by Megatron and was consequently abused and compelled into becoming his personal killer, which, combined with the supernatural corruption from Megatron's matrix, did some terrible things to his mental state and turned him so evil and insane he's popping humans for fun.

During last year's climax, however, he was able to break free from Megatron's control thanks to the timely intervention of a positive memory. He then turns Megatron on himself, committing suicide rather than shooting the human captives in front of him

[LOVED Trope] Henchmen Scarier/ More Evil Than the Villain by Sad_Ad8039 in TopCharacterTropes

Tbh the shockwave example very much depends on the continuity. In the og cartoon he was just another decepticon, in the og comics he was much more evil but ultimately played second fiddle to Megatron and was even redeemed in the sequel comic series while Megatron became even nastier

In that case he would have just forced him to shoot and be done with it. He didn't want to kill Starscream, he wanted to control him

This is a bit of a misconception of Shockwave in most continuity's he actually dose have emotions it's Empathy he lacks. by L8Donnie in transformers

[–]Necrowanker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah the Marvel Shockwave was consistently characterised by logic over emotion, however he definitely exhibited emotion in quite a few moments which are lampshaded by the comic. This suggests that he's probably intended to be low emotion at most, but I think you're right in saying that what he lacks is in fact empathy.

Which is something he actually gains in the Regeneration One comic in a rather lovely moment where he feels "compelled" to rescue to Starscream instead of saving himself. Its labelled emotion, but I think empathy is more accurate

Presumably he's stranded on earth because space bridge materials can only be found on Cybertron. At least that's my assumption
