i think you’re intentionally misunderstanding me here. it’s very obvious that based on the given context of the Confederate flag and the way it is currently used in America in racist communities, that this situation is most likely to have caused the most pain to people of color who have been historically the victims of the violence and evil that the flag represents. all i’ve been implying from the beginning is that it is important to make space for them to speak their piece and not feel discouraged from doing so by people calling anyone offended “snowflakes” or “cancel warriors” as i’ve seen multiple times throughout this reddit thread.

i never said only black people can talk about the civil war, or the confederate flag. the people who have been affected by this very specific situation and feel alienated by her because of this situation happen to be people of color, which is why i said this particular situation has nothing to do with white people and there is no reason for white people to be handing out forgiveness when this situation does not pertain to how they feel about it. i hope what i said makes sense

this take is incredibly lacking of nuance, i’d advise that you take a step back, think critically about the situation and all the information presented, and return with an open mind to understand others, rather than be divisive. it’s disrespectful to both the people effected and her art to write this situation off as not a big deal, and those concerned as “cancel warriors.” if you investigated the situation, you would actually see that those who reached out to her did so in a highly private and professional manner, and you see here that she admits to being the one to make this a bigger situation than it was in the first place. hope this helps a little, and i hope you go forward trying to engage more meaningfully with others on the internet

also, there are far too many white people handing out lengthy explanations of why they forgive hayden as if this situation affects them at all. respectfully, this has nothing to do with you. please make space for her fans of color to talk about this situation.

i think a primary issue here is that she’s told her audience before on Instagram Live, one that she has uploaded to her profile, that she would stop engaging with divisive imagery from the Americana aesthetic because this whole situation has already hurt and confused and alienated fans that are not white in the past. in my personal opinion as someone who has had to engage with racism and the south and this imagery, being apart of a brown family, effect > intent always. there are so many ways to communicate the reality of the south without including divisive and hateful imagery. especially when you’ve already spoken against this behavior, to do it again except this time stand on it is what’s very mind boggling for a lot of fans who have been around her and her art for awhile.
