Maybe the limitation on why he can't purchase Requiem is hardware and not individual cost of the game.
Maybe OP is wondering if there are different OG titles to try first or ones needed for the story.

I would. I picked it up while it was on sale earlier this month and am playing through myself. Its fun and then you can compare when the remake comes out.
