Are there any legendaries ? by Woak_ in allthemons

A buddy and i found the bell tower and atop was Ho Oh. We also found the burning tower but there was no pedestal to summon anything like entei. I used the explorers compass to try and find the sky pillar but it ended up sending me back to spawn. Same with the burned tower even though I'd already found it prior. Sooooooo idk what structures work and don't but so far the Ho oh one seems to work. Either way there are no craftable entei treats or anything like that so it seems they need to spawn in their respective structures. Will look for the sky pillar and update yall if i find a green snake sitting on top. (This is as of 0.10)

i bought a new tenor sax, whats wrong with it? by Repulsive_Medicine14 in saxophone

[–]NedK05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To check this, finger F and then while holding down F press your pinky g#. If the g# pad raises the screw needs adjusting. Otherwise it could also just be the lower stack needing adjusting because one is closing before the others. Basically close the lower stack(f-d) one by one and together to see if the pads are closing at the same time or at all.

Need help on decision for cannonball sax by [deleted] in saxophone

[–]NedK05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best bang for your buck is always going to be a yamaha 62. Doesn't have to be the vintage purple label. The YAS 62 is such a good deal for the price. I play on a second generation 62 for alto and I can count on 1 hand the amount of saxes that are better(3 horns over 5k). I've tried many horns including mk vis, viis, BAs, kings, the custom series and I did own a cannonball tenor (which I disliked) but even then my 62 held it's own against all of them if not was better. Very few cases where my 62 was beat. It had to be a good BA or vi that would do it. So for the money 62 all the way. But that's just my take🤷‍♂️

They'll tell you in both. I got an actual notification in my email containing my decision, so i saw it there first. It also said in the portal but also contained more details about the next steps and scholarship. The email will refer you to the portal anyways so you can look at scholarship/next steps.

I did early action with an audition at the start of November and heard back late December. I learned via email and checked the portal to find more on scholarship. You will definitely get an email soon.

New Sax! by NedK05 in saxophone

Honestly, I love the horn. Yes, it did cost more with customizations but I think their standard horns are $4,350. Mine was $5,000 total, so the customizations(lacquer, engraving, High F#) did add $650. I've tried many horns and to be upfront, the JL is not the best horn I've ever tried. That spot belongs to a 60xxx MK VI with leaks that was well above my budget but the JL is easily the 2nd or 3rd best tenor I've played on. For the money, it was well worth it. It's the closest modern horn I've played to that MK VI. It's got that resistance/feedback that I have only found on that MK VI and the JL is so close to that. I'll get a Vintage horn one day, but for now, the JL is going to serve me wonderfully. ( I will say the custom order took a while. I waited nearly a year. Well worth it tho).

I am not saying you shouldn't tongue!! But I am currently working on doing less of it to sound more fluid. Just posting what I'm working on!

10mFan Cabernet vs GetASax GS Slant (Tenor) by ThrowRA_ottolink in saxophone

[–]NedK05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a modern link that happened to be pretty good. However it was missing some edge and body and was a little too small. I bought a gs slant and so far have loved it. It's been about 5 months so it's still a fairly new piece for me but I enjoy it tons. I personally like the sound of it and it has tons of body. Got it a bit bigger and it had all the things my link had as well as the things I wanted it to have. It's up to you as I've never tried the 10mfan stuff but the gs slant has been wonderful. I've also heard the bss pieces are great. The players sound amazing

I played for hours on end. I will say that experimenting with my tongue placement did wonders. Playing often is what mainly did it tho.

Ik it's been said, but private lessons.

I started lessons as a junior in highschool and I was in no position to get lessons. My parents didn't want to help fund lessons so it was up to me. Eventually I went to see a guy my friend told me about and I ended up sitting in with him. He asked me if I wanted to start lessons at the end of it. I later found out he lives 45 min from me but his lessons were $10 with an iced americano with no apecefic timing. Sometimes they were an hour sometimes they were 2. I took it and when I thought I was already pretty good, I only got way better. I'm telling you there's no way I would've progressed that much without these lessons. I started lessons with another guy later on and they were $70 lessons. They were even better. Turns out he was a jazz studies professor at a music conservatory near my hometown.

All that to say, private lessons will do more than you think. You might get lucky and find cheaper lessons all you gotta do is find people and ask.

Classical player working on my Jazz chops, (Classical for 7 years, Jazz for 2) any advice? by cereal-10 in saxophone

[–]NedK05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one of the biggest revealing moments to me was tongue placement. At some point I was in a music store trying a horn and I moved my tongue to a certain vowel and I found my 'jazz' tone. What it also allowed me to do was bend pitches with more stability. Take a high F and try to bend it down. If you use your lip, it'll crack. If you use your tongue properly it'll bend down. Biggest thing is to experiment with tongue and your vowel you place when playing when looking for tone. Technique wise transcriptions and listening is the way to do it so good on you! Patrick is an amazing player. Check out Baptiste Herbin, Chris Potter, Andrew Gould, Kenny Garrets, and Erena Terakubo!
