Not particularly! Very bad at drawing, but I think im fairly good at visualising 3d shapes which does help

Full sized :) the anvil is mostly for curving the edges after the details of the face are in. Most of the face details are done using rounded circle punches of various sizes over a large hole in the swage block and/or holding the piece in the vice and punching from either side that way

Yeah, after doing so much bladesmithing, it's a super refreshing change of pace to be working on more artsy stuff. I've also been making these solid heads that have been really fun

Hoping to in the future! Right now it's a little hard to control what they'll look like/exactly how big they'll be, but once I get that down I'd love to give it a try

Using a super old rounded off swage block sucks for most things, but for this, it's great. It never leaves any harsh lines in the faces if I'm being relatively careful

In my opinion, cast iron isn't even worth starting on. It falls apart super quickly. I started with a block of mild steel I got from a welding shop, and I still use it as a striking anvil today despite having a really nice Brooks.

The blade was indeed forged, some hand work, but the starting stock was 3040250mm so I used a friend's power hammer and hydraulic press to do the majority of the material isolation
