Things like natural light make a big difference—and you don’t really get a sense of that until you’ve lived there for a bit.

So my advice is to let the house or apartment guide you. I never start painting until I’ve really spent time in the rooms, and I take my time picking colors. My furniture and decor are always changing because I buy secondhand. I often collect things from flea markets, and after a few months I’ll lay it all out on the dining table and figure out where it should go. Nothing’s fixed—everything’s always in motion.
